Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking around here for years like a well behaved broody hen; sitting, observing, and soaking up all the wisdom without making a peep. I finally decided to come out of the nesting box because my son and I are diving into hatching and breeding Silkies, and it turns out I have more questions than eggs. We have had chickens for about 4 years now and currently have around 50 birds representing roughly 30 different breeds, which basically means our coop is a feathery United Nations of personalities, drama, and egg colors. I absolutely love how expressive chickens are. There is never a dull moment and someone is always clucking about something important, or not.

We are based in Tennessee, where life is full, loud, and just the right amount of chaotic. In addition to our flock, we also have emu and human children, both equally curious and occasionally unpredictable. I am a midwife by profession, and honestly, hatching eggs feels very familiar. There is that same instinct to hover, help, and do something, while knowing that sometimes the best thing you can do is sit on your hands and let nature do its thing unless there is a real emergency. It is a lesson in patience every single time.

Most of my hobbies revolve around caring for our animals and learning more about breeding and incubation, because apparently I enjoy a little controlled chaos, and I love observing all the little quirks that make each bird unique. I originally found BYC years ago while researching chicken care and have been happily falling down rabbit holes ever since. Joining now just feels like the natural next step, especially as we start this Silkie adventure. I am excited to finally be part of the conversation and learn from all of you!

:gig How many eggs do you have? And how many questions?
I have a wuestion too. Are you using your Silkies as incubators?

I love your introduction. You are really a great writer. I hope you will contribute with this talent all around BYC soon!
I am waiting for the post with your questions.
:caf Can be as lots of new treads, or one ‘more questions than eggs’ thread or you could make an ongoing thread like ‘Hendragon likes to learn’ starting with all your questions. Sure you get enough fans who will follow and respond.

Please add Tennessee in you profile. This is always nice to know information for responders. Good luck with incubating your Silkie eggs.
