M I Crooked Letter Crooked Letter...ahh, nevermind....Mississippi

Hi MS! We moved here last year to Hernando, about 40 minutes south of Memphis. I had chickens in Arizona, and I am sooooo excited about getting a flock going here soon. I've ordered some chicks and I'm waiting to see when they will be delivered. And I am looking for some Nigerian Dwarf goats to hang out with our chickens. Ha! I will hopefully be getting my kids into 4H soon, and maybe we can find a source for show quality silkies. Anyone else live up this way?

that's funny. I decided to go with two barred rock chicks for their toughness/sweetness.... We picked them up a week ago and already sooo big!
The first day
And then now

Cute chicks Brandee76. I have 6 barred rock girls and my top Roo is a barred rock. He is very sweet. It is funny. They can be described as both sweet and tough. One of the girls we call "mean girl'. She is small and mean, but she is also the one that runs beside me making peeping sounds like she is still a chick. Funny.

Hi MsKay. Your Buff Orpingtons are beautiful, and I totally agree with you. Chickens make me happy too. I have 5 B.O. girls. (I call all my hens & pullets my girls.) B.O. were on my list as must have. I had 2 go broody last year along with Miss Sassy, a Barred Rock. It was fun watching them set and then take care of the chicks.

I have so many chickens now...hubby thinks I'm crazy :)
I understand. I'm afraid that my flock doubles each spring/summer. The original plan was to increase the flock by 10% each year, but I believe what they call "chicken math" has taken over. The 4 pekin ducks I got for my husband. He thought that we needed some ducks. My daughter wants a pair of geese, but I'm a little nervous about geese.

I want to add to my orpington flock. I want to get blacks, bbs, buffs and maybe cuckoo... maybe a few others. I have $600 in my chicken fund but I need to build more coops and am also waiting for this AI thing to blow over. I sure don't want to endanger my current birds just to add new varieties...

Oooo have you seen those Sebastopol geese? Beautiful!

I don't blame you there. So glad I got all mine in before this hit. I'm keeping mine pretty locked down and spraying regularly with Oxine. Hope it passes soon. :) In about two months some of my other colors should be laying. So excited about that.
