Hey Ya'll:D
I live in Vicksburg. I haven't been on BYC in ages. I'm so glad to find some other Mississippi peeps on here. My flock is mainly speckled Sussex and Dominiques, I have a blue cochin hen and a modern game hen. I've recently gotten my sister addicted to chickens so we split an order of chicks, which arrived tuesday.

She likes the faniest bantams and I like the more practical breeds. But I did endulge myself and got some buff silkies. Look forward to chatting more with ya'll.

Hello CrazyLady, It is great to see all these Mississippi folks arriving here.
I have 11 blue silkies that are now 3 weeks old, 10 EE's and 3 Iowa Blues that are also 3 weeks old.
Arriving on April 3rd or 4th will be my 8 replacement Iowa Blues (lost all but the 3 above to cold) and my 10 Cornish Bantams plus 4 Sultan Bantams.
Seems I got carried away with my intended SMALL backyard flock. LOL My DH was expecting me to order 20 chicks. He almost fell out when he discovered that I was starting a chicken farm. Thank goodness he is good natured and just started adding on to accomodate.

CrazyLady, I wish I knew. I need to get a subscription to the local market bulletin. I'm still relatively green when it comes to chickens. I've read much, much more than I've experienced thus far! I did meet a lady from Raymond at the Wilmington Street feed and seed in Jackson who raises chickens. She's the closest person to me I can contact, but as far as I know, she's not on BYC even though I told her about it. She bought the rest of the Exhibition Buff Orps from jmhappycowboy that I didn't get. Wish I could talk her into coming over here to give her opinion on my banty eggs. I don't know for sure about four of them. I candled them last night. There is definitely a blood ring in one, so I'm sure it's bad, but 3 have me puzzled, and the one I think might have a chicken in it, could be a blood spot. jmhappycowboy will have some chicks hatching on the 5th, so if all Penny's eggs are bad, I will slip a couple of his day olds under her on the 5th. Penny is a silkie Serama bantam setting 5 eggs. This is day 9.

You can pull up the missippi market bulletin for free and read it. Don't need a subscription.

There are usually no bantams on there. Usually standard breeds. And most of them too far from me.

By the way, I know an AJ Minga here in Grenada. I know his daughter, she is married to a friend of mine Adam Kirk.

Hi jnjross. Welcome to BYC.
There are lots of great people here who will be happy to answer any of your questions. I am in the Jackson area and have just gotten back into having chickens. I had them for years - but - that was 20 years ago. 20 years is a long time to go without chickens. LOL
