I am raising my first flock of chicks ever. I got 4 chicks about 3 weeks ago and they are all happy. Last night a friend of my wife calls and says one of her friends is going to kill a 3 week old chick because it's not being nice to the other chicks in her flock and would we take her? I don't want to see a chick killed so I'm thinking of taking her. What would be the best way to introduce her to my chicks? Is there a way to cure this mean problem? What should we do??

Depends on how mean she really is? Good news is that when adding a new bird, there is a pecking order and she would start at the bottom. They have to work out the pecking order at some point in any flock. Just curious, what is the breed and what are your breeds?

My wife dosn't know the bread that the lady has. I have 1 Red Laced Wyandotte, 1 Partridge Rock, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Plymouth Rock. oh and my chicks are the same age.

be careful about introducing new birds as they have potential to expose yours to disease. Now, don't panic about that...young birds are less risky to bring together than older birds who have had greater exposure time/opportunity, but the general rule is to quarantine for 4 weeks to assure no sickness is present.

The chick was establishing it's dominance over the other chicks, so it wasn't so much meanness as it was hoping to be top chick! Breed doesn't matter much, if at all.

sounds like he will have to eventually off all the chicks but one, because there will be a dominant in the flock, and that is how they establish it. also sounds like the the ____ should not have chickens, or any other animals for that matter.
