If you all want to read more about this type of disease, I highly recommend a book by D. T. Maxx called "The Family That Couldn't Sleep". It traces the history of this type of disease, how the mechanism was discovered and named, etc. It covers the history of scrapie in sheep, BSE in cows, CJD in humans as well as variations that are genetic and are non-transmissible. Overall, it was a very interesting book.
