Actually, there is some question about whether the disease that appears in cows is even transmissible to humans at all. The research in Britain that said it was is questionable at best. At least one of the individuals that supposedly had contracted mad cow was found at autopsy to have a brain condition caused by alcoholism, and some other affected individuals were vegetarians and did not eat beef or any other meat at all.
