maggot infestation and diarrhea

Probably should be triple antibiotic cream if can get some. One without a pain reliever in it. So wash with saline and remove all evidence of infestation with tweezers. Wash with antibacterial soap. Dry and apply ointment.

Actually, I was just reading the article I posted earlier, and it is not recommended to apply ointment, since she feels it will make the area too moist and gooey. Weak betadine would be good. The products we have available here are a little different from NZ.
done some googling and it seems iodine is similar to betadine so will continue to use that :) the instructions on the bottle say it prevents infections etc

Red-kote would be my poison of choice. Have you got an equivalent? New Zealand is sheep country, right? I imagine there must be something similar.
not sure if we do have anything similar, i’ve never heard of anything that does similar things to red kote :/

another update: the electrolyte water seems to have made the chooks poop more normal, hopefully when the flystrike heals the diarrhoea will go away
i’ve placed a mosquito net over her pen to prevent anymore flies landing on her

sorry for posting here so much! just wanna document the progress :)
cleaned the chook again and no maggots came off in the water and i couldn’t see any on her, obviously more may still hatch and there could still be some tiny ones under her skin but the area looks pretty closed up now so i’m not sure how to check for them if they’re in her skin?
i used the hair dryer to dry her as i saw suggested in one of the links that was sent and i didn’t think that that would also dry up the raw moister areas of the wound... is this a good or bad thing? maybe i will just use the towel next time :/

Hi @emay75 you may also want to see if you can find Germolene. I believe Rebrascora uses this on wounds.
Just a thought.
