The thing with the SWAT is, the stupid maggots have to come out for air (that's why the yucky crawling in and out thing), they suffocate in the SWAT coming out. It's used around a horse's eyes and on open cuts to keep the flies from striking and/or maggots infesting. It works like magic. I think I washed my roos butt and let it dry a bit then put a big gobb over the wound. He felt better almost instantly. You can take a hose and maybe a little soap and just wash right in that area. Towel dry it a bit and then add the goop.

I read a sad story awhile ago about this ill German Shepherd being dropped off at the pound by the owner. He had thick hair mats all over because of the lack of propper hygiene (neglect). They didn't realize (or they didn't even bother to look) what was making him sick until a GS rescue group brought him in and the poor guy had maggots underneath all those hair mats. He was in horrible shape, being eaten alive from all over his body, so they put him down. He had been at the shelter for days in this condiction. So sad and so treatable. It's easy not to see if you don't examine them closely.

The medical maggots are Blowfly maggots and are prescription. They can be used for animals. They are disease free. Here's the link: http://www.monarchlabs.com/support_faq.htm I would not leave these in there.

Well, I can get the SWAT around 8:30am tomorrow, so I hope she is still fighting for life then. Earlier tonight my mother-in-law checked on her and she thought the hen was losing her spark... I hope she's around tomorrow...

got the SWAT, one question, I should still use some kind of antibiotic such as neosporin right, or does SWAT also have that kind of stuff in it as well besides bug killer?

Someone here said to rinse with betadyne or other solution first but I'd just get the SWAT in there!!!

No, swat doesn't have antibiotic in it

betadine will prevent fungal growth in a moist/deep wound

Keep her inside so she will be away from the flies. Or put her in an dog crate and put an screen on the door and windows. good luck
