MAGGOTS ON MAYMAY Need help ASAP

Well Friday afternoon I brought her in washed the area up really good again ready to apply more SWAT and let her cool off some in the air. The area that they had crawled under the skin is totally black and blue. Looks just aweful. Like someone beat her up. BUT no infection and no more maggots. Vent looks good, the bad area has a scab and looks healthy. She is in great spirits, talking to me, bright eyes (no more goop coming out of it).

Sunday? she looks GREAT!!!!!!!!! bruised area is down to a smaller size, no maggots and she is doing awesome. we are out of the woods i do believe. Oh Maymay..... such a trip she is.

This am she is bouncing around pigging out and looks just wonderful. Put on some more swat. No one is picking on the area because it is hidden under her wing and the vent area is healing up nicely. We got SO lucky!!!!!

On another note, I did find a fly spray at TSC that's new and is all natural made with mostly oils. It does seem to work great! I sprayed around the area that had the flys and onto Maymays butt. No issues, no flys. AND it is all natural. I little expensive for the spray bottle, but well worth it I think.

I'm very happy for you!

Another spray at TSC that kills and repels flies is called Screw Worm Spray. It's a spray that's blue but doesn't hurt the hens. I have a few preventitive tips that I can give you: When a hen gets broody after she hatches the chicks, give her a good soak to get any poop off, immeadiately clean any open wounds and put a fly repelent on it quickly, and when broken eggs or poop are in a nestbox clean it out soon. I hope these help! However, no need to worry in Winter if you live in a Northern area.

OMG your poob baby :( This makes me so sad. What happened to her? I really hope she makes it thru this and recovers just fine! Your stronger than I am, I could never sit there and pick them nasty things off ...yucky!!! Good luck and like I said I hope she gets better :)

i would say she is fine! acting like her same silly girl again. Healed up 95%. whew! see, when the problem is in front of us, we have to deal with it. Picking them off was so hard. It hurt her really bad I know, but i had to do it or loose her.

Glad I did!~!!

Good job! I hope she heals up quickly. I also use Neosporin, just glob it everywhere.
It makes the skin happy, and smothers the maggots.
