I use a meat thermometer to check against my cheapo digital ones as well.

I currently have my incubator set to 37.5C. One thermometer reads 102F / 38.8C and the other read's 96.1F/ 35C. Way off.

ohyeah they will be, and super cheap ones can be unnacurate by different amounts at different temps

One of them is probably no good. I bought a bulk pack of digital thermometers and initially they were all pretty good and I've had to toss a few as time has passed. If you keep 2-3 in the incubator it's usually pretty easy to identify when one goes bad. It can happen with the nice ones too so I haven't seen a need to switch my cheapo thermometer method, lol.

I will reccomend a lazer thermomter, soo awesome for finding hot and cool spots. They are 60$ish

And I thought I didn't trust thermometers! I use 4, one in each corner since I get hot and cold spots in my IncuView.

I just checked and I still have 6 or the original 12 thermometers that are still accurate after using them for a year. Not bad for $16 and 20+ hatches.

Is keeping the incubator in a mini-fridge a bad idea? I have the door propped open for oxygen, Just figured it would help the temps stay steady.

I don't have a clue on that one. I will say that good ventilation is very important for a successful hatch but people have converted fridges into DIY incubators, so maybe?

if its helping you should be okay, i always just used the blanket, less air gap around the bator and less fluctuation when you check on the hatch

Make sure its not near open windows, drafts, or any direct sunlight at any time of the day

i lost a hatch because at 12:50pm while i was at work the sun hit a mirror and reflected onto my bator
