Magic Jack?

Does anyone use Magic Jack, and what are the pros and the cons of it? I am considering it, but need some feedback. And the commercial says that you don't have to have a computer? I don't want to have to leave a computer running 24/7.

My mother in law has it through her computer and i can't stand talking on the phone to her - it sounds like a tin can from my end.

My DH uses one at work in NM when he cant get cell reception to call me. It works just fine.

No computer?? I have never heard of that type. I did however use one on and off for 5 years and absolutely loved it. I say on and off because we all had cell phones as well and this served our daughter for her friends and calls to a couple family members that had bad cell reception. We never had a complaint about sound quality and quality on our end was better than cell. We did however shut down the computer at night and lost service to magic jack.....that was the old type I guess though

Yea, the old ones required a PC an the new ones are a stand alone box.
