Mah baby's gone broody!

I sort of think she'll find a way to keep sitting.

Let's see your Shamo roo!! Once upon a time, I raised them myself... a wildfire wiped out the place and killed my remaining pair of Oriental fowl, and their chicks though.
1st pic are of the chicks I hatched in October and one of them is the one that went broody. 2nd pic is my Super Special Giant Shamo (his dad stands at 3 ft tall)! Don't mind the mess.... chicken pen was there when I moved in and had to work with it. And was just about to clean up the mess. :p

If you don't want anymore chicks then I would take the eggs that she is nesting on & then start collecting the eggs daily. That sounds like the best solution in this situation. If she doesn't have any eggs in her nest then you don't have to worry about having chicks.

I do collect the eggs to eat when I see them, but I don't think they are fertile anyway. My next hatches would be to find a suitable hen with good bloodline to mate with one of the rooster that I hatched myself from a pair that I acquired with good genetics. I'm also looking for a giant Shamo hen to mate with my Super Special Giant Shamo in hopes of getting 3 foot tall and above offspring..... and then have my own line of giants!! YEAH!!

You have some great looking birds!!! Someday, I am going to have to get some more of them. Somebody gave me some American gamefowl but they really aren't the same as having gigantic dinosaur chickens roaming around lol

My pullet have finally turned into a hen
She's one year old?

Is she on nest most the day and all night?
When you pull her out of nest and put her on the ground, doesn't she flatten right back out into a fluffy screeching pancake?
Does she walk around making a low cluckcluckcluckcluckcluck(ticking bomb) sound on her way back to the nest?
If so, then she is probably broody and you'll have to decide how to manage it.

If you don't want her to hatch out chicks, best to break her broodiness promptly.
My experience goes about like this: After her setting for 3 days and nights in the nest, I put her in a wire dog crate with smaller wire on the bottom but no bedding, set up on a couple of 4x4's right in the coop or run with feed and water.

I used to let them out a couple times a day, but now just once a day in the evening(you don't have to) and she would go out into the run, drop a huge turd, race around running, take a vigorous dust bath then head back to the nest... at which point I put her back in the crate. Each time her outings would lengthen a bit, eating, drinking and scratching more and on the 3rd afternoon she stayed out of the nest and went to roost that evening...event over, back to normal tho she didn't lay for another week or two. Or take her out of crate daily very near roosting time(30-60 mins) if she goes to roost great, if she goes to nest put her back in crate.
Chunk of 2x4 for a 'roost' was added to crate floor after pic was taken.

Well..... just checked today and she's off the nest. Found 5 eggs and gathered them up for tomorrow's breakfast. They seem to be laying a lot now (For Oriental Gamefowls, anyway), anyone interested in some Super Thai Hybrid Champion fertile eggs? Bidding starts at $9.99 per egg, step right up and make your bids! Champion bloodline, I sayz! :p
