My chicks have just finished hatching. They were a barnyard mix my friend gave me (free - out of her fridge). Although I didn't really need them, I put them in the bator to make sure that everything was up and running smoothly for the really important eggs I got from Mahonri...No wait - that is the excuse I tell everyone else. The truth is, I couldn't wait and so I slipped in a batch of freebies while waiting for the eggs from Mahonri. Wow...so nice to be able to just tell the truth and not receive judgement. That is what I love about this group!

Well actually I was seriously thinking of a great way to make a brooder on long legs in one of my breeder pens so I could have big chickens on the floor and then could have the space above for a wooden floor brooder. Then it would be waist height and be easier to clean out. Oh and if I had the money a double decker coop would be awesome. You could have a really long ramp up to the top floor! Stacking runs would be a fun concept except the poor bottom dwellers would get pooped on a lot.

For the person who asked where I got the rub on transfers: AC Moore. However, the Christmas ones I purchased at Michaels and a few at JoAnn's Fabric/Crafts. Some of the better decorators on the thread I linked to buy them online (I think ebay). Thank Miss Prissy for the idea and I agree it's a fun project! I'm just spreading the word.

For the person who asked if we have room in the coop... heck no! I have no idea what I'm going to do. Right now I've got 41 chickens in an 8x20 (full house) and the only reason I've got an 8x20 is because I originally purchased too many chickens for the 8x8 we built and had to expand

I also have 4 eggs under my scary broody banty and I think 18 on order from Muggs for Easter... Hopefully I only bought 12 but I can't remember and believe I might have gone overboard and got 18... can't even remember what I ate for dinner last night...

WHY oh why are you all talking numbers here? That is not allowed. Now I am counting, and counting, and counting, and and and.... OH NO ! ! ! I have just touched on a reality check, and I did not want to go there!

I have LOTS of room in my coop right now.

I had 18 chickens and a turkey before winter, but lost a couple over the last couple of months and sold my TSC hens I got last spring. I am concentrating on my Silkies and Orpingtons.

I am down to a pair of Orps and a trio of Silkies (but not for long!)
