Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

OK here is my broody mama pic.

I set 10 eggs under her on the evening of MARCH 26th, 2011.

I candled on day 10 and removed 2 eggs... non developers... ladies that don't like my roos I suppose.

My daughter is doing a "science project" for school, she is going to compare incubators with broodies so I figured yesterday I'd get out there before "confinement" and get a pic of her and her 8 unhatched eggs.

Here she is with a little straight on stink eye...

And her eggs... there really are 8 under her.
And last Saturday she was off the nest for a good 2 hours in 45 degree weather

And here is what I found this afternoon when I got home... 2 more are pipped underneath here

I KNOW, I KNOW... DON'T OPEN the BATOR... but I did.

Why is she hatching so early?

Total

2 FBCMs

2 Olive Eggers

1 Wellie x Pene I think the others are clear. I did find one of the prestley/Valentine eggs that was clear this morning, but can't see through the other 4.

Well, I suppose I shouldn't be shocked that my $3 plastic thermometer/hygrometer wasn't terribly accurate. I bought a Brinsea incubation thermometer and a Caliber III thermometer/hygrometer meant for cigar cases. The temperature I was getting was accurate and matched the Genesis' stated preset, about 100.7 between eggs right now. The humidity, however, was WAY off. What my $3 hygrometer says is 45% humidity is 25% on the CalIII. Goodness, I wonder what the humidity was when I was holding it at 35% according to the $3 hygrometer. Ah, well, no wonder the humidity needed a boost. Live and learn.

That said, do those of you with the Genesis leave your temp at the factory preset 100.5 despite the circulated air, or do you turn it down to 99.5 degrees?
