Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Think we need a contest to guess how many pages this thread will be by Easter.

I finally settled on what breeds I'm going to hatch - looks like I'll be getting D'Anvers and Silkies from Boggy Bottom Bantams (a fellow BYCer). Now I'm asking around CT folks and the 4H club for an incubator I can buy, borrow, or rent. If not, I will either need to convince hubby to let me get a Little Giant off eBay or build my own.

This will be my first hatch and I'm a little nervous that I will fail miserably.

As a person who fails miserably with disturbing regularity, I can say, "it isnt so bad."

So my first hatch is complete! I ended up with 17 chicks out of the 19 that went into lockdown (24 eggs started). I'm not sure if the last chick to hatch is going to last though. He piped at the wrong end of the egg and took a really long time to hatch. When he did get out he had a lot of blood in the shell. Now that he has fluffed out it seems that he isnt as energetic as the other chicks and his feet look kind of funny, almost like arthritic? Kinda bent to the sides so he kinda balances on his ankles. I'm not quite sure what to do about him. Is he a lost cause? Anyways all the rest of the chicks are lively and normal. Since this was a random grab bag of eggs anyone want to guess about what breed(s) or what they might look like as adults? It's a huge mystery! Here's a pic of my cute fluffy butts!

These two adorable girls are purebred Tennessee Fainting Goats also called Myotonic Goats. Sorry it took me so long to answer. I can't keep up with this thread!~

Cool! I've heard of those but never seen one up close. I know how hard it is to keep up with this thread though!

gryeyes has TWO prizes!

We may use one for the guess how many pages at midnight on Easter and then gryeyes will be running the Mahonri Hatchers Week 3 contest. We'll let her announce and run it and hopefully Kathy in Mo can get her computer fixed so she can keep us all abreast of all of the prizes.

The prizes are "Solar Chicken Yard Art!"

YES! When folks start telling us how many eggs they'll be setting and when folks start guessing how many chicks I'll hatch (with the first three breeds hatched) and how many pages there will be on this thread at 12:00:01AM on Easter (April 24th)...

there will probably be more but we won't need to set it up until the first of April unless we get other contests that need to be set up sooner!

Thank you so much for offering and we'll end up putting the link on Post #1
