So far I haven't lost many at the 1st candling. As I check BYC I am looking at another incubator. Maybe a Brinsea? The bators I have now seem fine but a new one would be fun! And more room to hatch.

Oh Yes....I can so relate. So how do I explain chicken math to my husband. LOL
Although I will tell you.... he makes a big stink every time new eggs arrive, but you can tell he enjoys them as much as I do. I've caught him with his nose pressed against the bator numerous times and he actually has a few that love him more than me. They walk right up to him so that he picks them up. I laugh every time I see a chicken under his arm as he pets it and walks around with it.

Chicken math is very flexible. You can use it in reverse on say, a spouse that isn't as excited over the four dozen eggs you just purchased. You say "I purchased 48 eggs, but only 36 will arrive unharmed. When I set the 36 eggs, only 24 will hatch. Of the 24 that hatch, only 12 will be female. Those females are staying...so you see hun, four dozen eggs is at best one dozen chickens." Nothing to worry about!
