Good morning all!! I woke up this morning to 10 Happy Birthday chicks with at least a dozen more pips... I wonder if I'll have enough hatch to equal my age today??

Had something similar from mid-December to the end of Feb. Had to get some Avalox, ($200 antibiotic that the ins. only covered $50)
Mostly it took rest and SLEEP.

So you two Western Illinois folks need to go to bed and stay there!

ETA: didn't sound right.... to your own respective beds...

I've finally had several hours of uninterupted [don't make anything dirty of that

] sleep; and woke up just in time to meet the neighbor for a chicken trade off. Those ISA Browns look nice in the pen; maybe not as nice as the Speckled Sussex, but their eggs should be as nice as or better for my eating egg customers.

I've had a bug that comes and goes since winter [picked it up at my former clinic, where I went in feeling healthy but in pain and suffering from a poor tolerence for Lipitor; hated sitting in that room full of coughing, wheezing, sick people just to try to get my prescriptions straightened out..................... decided to make that my last visit there] and thought it would eventually give up. I guess I over did in March and it got the upper hand. Feeling a little less like death warmed over after sleeping better than I have in a long while, so off to the pharmacy.

Well I'm trusting broodies for the first time, I even emptied a bator under them. One broody brahma and a pair of broody seramas very gently sharing the burden of four eggs between them. Serama eggs were due yesterday, and all live when candled Fri night, so we'll see when I get back in a couple of hours if we have babies. The other one is doing well, but will be buying chicks for her I think. Sadly, but thats the way it goes.

Mahonri...... I have 7 more eggs in the bator as of yesterday for a total of 37. I had a broody decide not to be broody after a day and a half. She's still fluffin' and screaming. She just wont sit on the eggs.. Goofy newbies!

Can you update my total please?

Some natural remedies can't hurt. My friend in China just had a lung infection and asked me (known herb NUT) for some natural remedies. So I don't have to rewrite the book I will copy/paste my email to her:

Hi, local to you is a plant called ma huang. In its natural form, plant form it is great for colds and opening the nasal passageways.

I don't know your exact area but you could check shops that carry herbs. In English we call it ephedra. I know it has a bad rep from pharmaceutical companies for its use in diet pills but natural and unrefined, made into a tea is natural and safe for colds. We have an american version that grows wild in the south west but I believe the Chinese is even better.

I would suggest for the spread to the lungs that you walk uphill, outdoors at a brisk pace. Most people refuse to do this when sick but if you just trust me on this, you will start hacking up green mucous. That is your infection. But you need to elevate the heart rate and breathe in deeply. After you do that. Or if you don't... either way, also for the lungs is good to steam yourself. Put a pot of simmering water on, put your hair up and a towel over your head and inhale some vapors. Even better would be a few drops of tea tree oil in the water because its antiseptic and will help kill germs. And, eucalyptus (unless you have asthma) is supposed to help open lungs. For some people (like asthma people) peppermint works better. Essential oils are most effective but dried herbs will also work.

For the fever, the natural remedy is cold and hot water compress alternating. I suggest keep taking Tylenol. As often as you can alternate a cold compress with a hot one or a hot bath with a cold bath.

Forget about food for a couple days. Just take fruit juice and herbal teas.

Hope you feel better soon.

Echinacea Tea supports immune system. Raspberry leaf helps reduce mucous.

Good morning, everyone!!

Late updating, but there has been some chaos around here, and I lost a friend.

I set 21 eggs: Heritage RIR, Bantam Chocolate/Choc. Cuckoo Frizzled Polish, Serama, and a project I'm working on.

Please visit my 24 hour auction https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=6062549#p6062549 which is a fundraiser for a friend I recently lost.

Hope everyone is doing great, and I'll check in later!
