Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Last night my girls got ivermectin pour on (having about 25% of my flock start to lose their feathers on the front of their necks under their chin and down to their breast but they're still laying??!!). They did not appreciate being pulled down from their roost, examined and then treated. I could have gotten 44 incredible flapper pictures for the contest.

I was so stuffy this morning and ... lets just say, ugggh... I must have taken 5 lbs of dust back to the house in my nose.

Eveil too bad you didn't have a video camera of the whole ordeal. You coulda won $10K on Funniest Videos!

Well I had to move the Brahma chicks to the garage yesterday. OMG the dust, dander and smell were enough to choke a goat.

We made a temporary pen out of chicken wire in the garage. You could almost hear them sigh to have the extra room to run around. DH was pretty funny. He kept saying that he wasn't throwing the chicks out and they could come right back inside if they seemed like they were too cold. So much for "they're your chickens"

Of course that doesn't mean that he will be out there cleaning coops but he can't claim that he doesn't care.

Laree, I hope your tom is feeling better today. I read your thread on what you had to do to doctor him up. I know I read a thread about someone doing crop surgery and they used super glue or something like it to close up the incision so hopefully your boy will heal up great!

Checking in! No way I can get caught up on all I have missed the past week!

A dog broke loose (not ours) and did major damage to pens, coops, and birds. We have lost a LOT. Can't seem to shoot the dadgum dog either!

Hope everyone's hatches are going along well.

I am so discouraged! Day 14 for me, my first hatch attempt, so I tried candling. It appears all of the eggs I set are clear except one!

I guess I won't be having any olive-eggers, as the one developing egg is an EE x EE (and with my luck, a rooster, if it even hatches).

Not sure what to do now, - buy an incubator and try again? (this one is borrowed). Give up for this year?
I am wondering if something is wrong with my rooster..... (only 1 year old).

I think I will start cracking open eggs tonight and see if anything had started developing. Big letdown.
(at least I am caught up on this long thread

I feel you! I have 1 I think is developing, one is a maybe and tossed half already. Don't give up!! My first hatch was 5% and second was 32% and this one is definitely going to be bad. But its still fun and worth it. It could be your incubator, but also if they are shipped that could be it. I'd say buy one...if just for fun.

Daily Countdown time!
Half way there!!
We have made it 10 days and we have 11 more days to go

I was a very very good girl and I waited until last night to candle and I just did a few, maybe 8 eggs total. Usually I am a serial candler and I candle all of them on day 7, 10, 14, 15, 16, etc...

This time I am really trying the "hands off" approach. I did have wigglers in there so that is GREAT! I could even see wiggling in my dark Marans eggs!

Out of all my chickens I have had, I have never owned a Marans so I am excited to get a few!

Mine are about 3 weeks old now and have a lot of feathers - they do grow up quickly! I don't handle mine much at all and they freak out when I go in to do chores. My last batch was the same but most of them grew out of it as soon as they figured out where the treats came from

I still have some Ameraucanas that prefer to be left to themselves but the BRs and Orps are SO friendly they get stepped on all the time
