Who has NOT candled yet? Am I the only lazy?

No you aren't the only one. I had my yearly horse show this weekend and needed recovery time. I'm planning on tonight if I don't get home too late.

Sort of. lol I had broodies that kept stealing each others eggs and fighting over nests. I had some in the bator so a few days later when they started to 'peep' I slipped them under a broody and she hatched them out just fine. You could always wait til the end and give them to her then. Good luck!

SteveH - last heart attack? Some people learn... others don't!!!

Well, my day at work left me bereft of explanations for the complete and utter stupidity of some people. I work in the courier trade (duck, shipped eggs alert - we don't ship eggs!) and I can't believe how some folks think stuff is going to get to it's delivery point with the least amount of info - or none at all - and packed in bin bags.

My eggs, however, are doing very well thank you. One goose eggs down, so 18 from 19 still in. Looks like the ducks will be early. Not knowing what breed/cross breed they may be (I was told they are ducks, full stop) I made an allowance for 18 days but they look way too far along for where they should be. Who knows, will keep candling every day from Saturday on and turn off the turner as soon as one internally pips I guess. I'll continue turning the goose eggs then by hand. I have found that the auto turner doesn't turn the goose eggs eneough so every couple of days I have given them an extra 180' turn, it seems to have made a difference from last year when only one looked like it would hatch and then it died in the shell. Anyone any advice on hatching these things? They are on 55-60% humidity and I am loathe to turn it much higher for hatching to be honest. Do they need to be super humid? I saw a friend of mine putting wet paper towels on hers while pipped and breaking out to keep humidity really high, it must have been 90% or more, I really don't want to feel that involved in the hatching, I like to set them up and let them get on with it. This time last year I was a bit manic about hatching, would be staring in for hours, helping semi-stuck chicks, etc, and very picky about temps, turning, humidity, etc etc. This year, if they are warm and there's some water in the bator I'm ignoring them. Much better hatch rates this year and the chicks seem healthier. I even moved eggs from incy to broody hen and back again when internally pipped to hatch, so ferrying eggs in and out, candling every four or five days, whether under hen or not, and opening bator with eggs pipped, everything, they all hatched. I am certainly NOT going to be manic about incubating ever again, man eggs are resilient, and although I have got great advice on hatching from all you guys, I'm now settled in my own way - at last!
