Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I candled mainly to de-tetris-ify my incubator a bit as well as to evaluate how the shipped eggs survived the PO. It's actually kind of fun to candle these Iowa Blues' eggs as you can really see amazing detail. LOL, I'm so used to my Marans eggs and Ameraucanas, it's quite fun to be able to see the veins and embryos so clearly.

Checking in from Small Town, Maine - moved here from Maryland then got DIVORCED. Oh the shame!

I will never fit in.

And I like it that way.

Oh and if I ever decide to plunge and have kids, yeah... they won't fit in, either. Way I had it 'splained to me, Lucy, is "a cat can have kittens in the oven but it don't make them muffins"...

Touche.

What is today? April?

Goodness! I was about 25 miles away in the town where I work, but we had quite a hail storm at home! Honestly, I've never seen real hail, only sleet.
It's pretty cool, but it definitely knocked out some of my seedlings. Hopefully some will make it.
Crazy weather!

Educated city girl, no kids, relocated to a small farm in rural south-western Ontario (Canada) - also divorced. Office in the home. I've been here for 6 years now with horses and chickens and about 1/4 of the "neighbours" ("real farmers") started to accept me this winter. (It seems they like my fresh eggs!!!)

I know they just find me amusing. I'll never fit in.

At least they don't complain about my roosters!!! (I can see the drool when they drive up the lane to get eggs ....)

Sort of. lol I had broodies that kept stealing each others eggs and fighting over nests. I had some in the bator so a few days later when they started to 'peep' I slipped them under a broody and she hatched them out just fine. You could always wait til the end and give them to her then. Good luck!

I just thought about it, but I need to take a picture of Hootie. She's the chick I hatched from your eggs on CNY. Also my avatar for now.

I'm home from my Mission of Mercy to Paso Robles. Despite as much care as I took to provide fed and water for everybody, I have had some losses: two of the 18 chicks in the two brooders are gone; one more is very weak. But it is now drinking water with vitamins. The ducklings are fine. Outside, Fritzie, who has been weak of late and in an infirmary coop/pen, despite having plenty of feed and water left, passed away, too. The six chicks Angel hatched are doing just fine. Whew! Everybody else is okay.

My friend has now decided she doesn't want white egg layers for the two LF hens I'll provide for her (after handing over the dozen eggs I brought for her neighbor and witnessing her sheer delight at all the colors). She said the 2 banties can be white egg layers, though. <*grin*> Plus, she's also decided she WOULD like to pick the hens, rather than me just choose some for her. (This is contrary to last night.) She'll listen to my input on breed traits, but now is kinda excited about the prospect and "getting" chickens is better than "receiving" chickens.

And it wasn't a 500 mile drive ONE WAY, just 265 miles. 530 round trip. I'm pooped. Good thing I have tomorrow off, too.
