Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

Congrats! Do you need a chickmate for it? I have some non naked necks somewhat freshly hatched if you need. Again stressing that they're fully dressed

That is sweet of you to offer (sorry I am so anti-naked neck!). What do you have? I shouldn't even be asking!

I will pick up 4 chicks at a feed store near Portland on Friday, - 3 EEs and 1 California White, so it will only be 2 days of solitary confinement for the lone ranger. Sometime around Friday, I should also get my olive-egger hatching eggs from alicefelldown. If enggass ends out with too many pullets, I may pick up a barnevelder and a lavender ameraucana in a few weeks! Yikes. And so many breeds I still want, especially more brahmas!

Force-feed electrolytes? I learned that one the hard way.

Laree, please explain...I just hatched a turkey yesterday.

A bit of sugar or electrolytes in their water, or I make a cup up and wipe a bit along each chick's beak. It tastes yummy, so they lick and then want more.

I had an issue where the poults were dehydrating really quickly, and then flipping over on their backs. I beleive that is an electrolyte issue---once they flipped over, they couldn't drinkm and they mummified under the heat lamp.

...not exactly like that, but you get the idea. Poults can be fragile, so a little extra TLC is a good idea.

The feed store? Rooster booster, or in a pouch marked electrolytes?

Gatoraid works in a pinch. But it makes the turkeys sweat green

My broody hen had her nest moved to the floor on a fresh pile of hay today and I managed to move her and the nest together. She seems to be happy there.

And went out to buy bee supplies and stopped off to visit this curious llama for a "llama ears" picture. I also got llama kisses and snuggles. Luckily no spitting:

AND I might be getting 4 pygmy goats tomorrow if I am still in love with them tomorrow. I forbid myself from making impulse animal decisions so I have to still want them tomorrow.

Well no. Then they would sweat wine marinade.
