First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for all of the support that I have received in regards to my son's planned surgery to repair his aorta.
On Wednesday last, Mike had his heart catheterization. There were complications and he was kept under anesthesia for much longer than anticipated, and because they had to use an excessive amount of contrast dye for so long it put a strain on his kidneys. (He had renal failure in 2006.) So rather than operate on him in a weakened condition, they decided to spend a couple of days flushing out his kidneys. Then they sent him home to recover until the surgery can be rescheduled within the next week or two.
Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Now, our big hatch is still ongoing. So far out of 125 eggs, we have 18 hatched. (Really rippin' em up there, eh?) They are taking their sweet time, but are healthy once they arrive. We have learned a lot about our homemade incubator and already have plans to tweak it. My first time broody has hatched 9 out of 12 babies, with 3 unhatched this am. I have left the eggs under her for the time being.
6 of my 27 shipped bantam Lavender Ameraucana's popped out on the 20th day. I had candled about day 15 and there were 15 clear and I discarded them. After these little ones popped out, I left the others in the incubator in the hopes they might hatch after all. I think I will wait another day and perhaps float them.
Thanks again everyone, this has been a lot of fun!
Edited: Because I am still exhausted and my brain is not functioning.
