Anyone ever had a dog have pups?

Our red Golden Retriever I think is in labor but we didn't think she was due until the 28th.... Will the puppies die?

What do we do for her. She won't eat... she'll drink if we put the water right under her nose, she pants, we took her temp and it's lower than normal.

I'm feeling so badly for her.

Jody, you can always take one of our pups back with you.

Dogs will have a temp drop right before whelping. The panting and non-interest in food are also normal.

How many days since she was bred? Normal gestation in dogs is 61-63 days.

I have only been thru whelping once. It was a long night. THe puppies come one at a time, with a delay between each. Take extra care with the runt--it's only small because of it's location in the uterus and with care will thrive and grow as big as any of the others. It's an amazing sight to have, how many puppies did you want? 10? 12? 14 puppies to raise for 8 weeks. The pups will be beautiful and you'll find a home for everyone. Have some old towels on hand . . . . I googled whelping for the basic info, it was very helpful when dealing with puppies the first time. GL

Mahonri, sounds like you are in for a night of waiting for puppies, hope all goes smoothly!

I put my New Years chicks out in the coop, for the first time,, tonight...........OMG, they were not happy with the change! Neither were the usual residents!
