Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Yup. Jupiter's Red Spot. Try marking your spot with a spot greater than that!

You're such a show off

I see that several people mark their spot on the thread. Did you know that if you subscribe to the thread as "Site only" that on the home page it will post the thread with new messages and when you click to go to the thread from there, it will take you to the last read post? Thats one thing I like about the new format.

Karim, I see you are from Eastern Iowa. I am originally from Waterloo. Where are you at?

I couldn't wait...I'm setting Iowa Blues and Wheaton/Blue Wheaton Ameraucanas from peachick tonight!

I'll have to double stack Bator #2 on 3/17 until this batch hatches, but I think that will work out just fine.
So far for the Easter hatch I'm planning to set Welsummers, BBS Copper Marans, Icelandics and of course Iowa Blues. If all comes through that will be at lease 75 eggs.

Would really like to hatch BO this year. Rooster is in a holding pen as he was getting beat up by the Ameraucanas. And Ginger and the other BO hens are cruising with the main flock. DH is supposed to buy material to make hen savers, too many of my sweetest girls are bare backed already. It's winter, they need a coat. Hope DH does't buy camo color.

Alrighty, getting itchy to start the spring hatch! Checked my black rock's egg this morning for fertility and all is well. Going to collect from her and our Miss Prissy blue orpington tomorrow. Hopefully that will get me over the 24 setting eggs mark.

Here's the sire Cordon, a mixed Orpington we got from a unscrupulous breeder, he's got yellow legs so suspect she hatched the red sex link eggs. Good gentle boy that protects his ladies well. The big butt is Miss Priss, she's 100% Orp.

This is my only BBS Rock to hatch from last year. We'll be keeping her for line breeding to hopefully get a flock of Blue Rocks in 4 years. Just can't find them in my area and shipping eggs doesn't work for my postal system. Anywho, this is Rosa.

Cordon is Handsome!
Speaking of Blue Orps... I found an egg which I think my blue orp pullet laid, it would be her first! It was big though, and shaped like a torpedo, poor girl. I found it where she usually sleeps at night and it is that distinct orp color, while all the other orps lay in the boxes, so, unless I learn otherwise, its hers.
Found a picture... She is the blue one.

and the roo to the left of her made a pretty decent chicken noodle soup.

Yeah, Cordon is handsome in his own right. I liked that picture as it's a nice action shot of him doing the head shake thing. One of those displays of dominance yet he doesn't attack. We were bummed once we realized the chicks we bought to keep Rosa company, lone Blue Rock to hatch, were of mixed blood but Cordons yellow skin should work well in line breeding Rosa. Big picture is best cockerel of hers is 50% rock, that offspring cockerel is 75% and next year 87.5% Rock. From there it's really just more selective breeding for standard. So 4 years is my goal to have a Blue Rock flock. Kind fun to have a long term project like that.

I really wanted to run high quality barred rocks with our flock but will wait until the 4th year so they will do some good and make sex link true (true enough) Rocks.

You don't even have to do that. If you go to "My Profile" and scroll down, it will show your most recenlty posted threads. If you click on the thread name, it will take you to the last place you read (or posted) from.

BUT-- I often get interrupted reading halfway through 15 pages, so I tend to mark my spot so I don't miss those in-between pages. If that makes sense.
