coldupnorth, I love the dog avatar, what is he??
Not a good idea. One of the tips here says the eggs need air to hatch. One idea was that automatic egg turners can cause problems over had turning because the bator is not opened enough to let in fresh air. There are small holes in the bottom of the Hovabator (stryro) that I assume are the air intake vents. There are 12 and each is about 1/4" diameter. Has anyone tried setting the whole bator in a shallow pan of water and using something to hold it just above the water's surface? I would think that would draw water vapor up through the holes and increase humidity. What do you all think?
There are guys. Thread starter is a guy. I am a guy. Please tell me I'm not the only guy in this egg hatch?? But I'm use to that being that I'm in the nursing profession! lol And I get grief all the time from my wife for "wasting time" tending to the chickens so all you gals out there I feel for u when you get grief from ur hubbies. lol
Sadly I have two Genesis Hovabators, but now I am looking at the Brinsea or a Dickey incubator.....In regards to getting the hovabator, You guys are pushers!!! lol but after adding insulation to the doors I woke up to my bator being 110 degrees. Yes! Now I just to need to adjust it. Im still thinking of getting the hovabator and selling my LG. The LG is the bane of my existence.
And for the messy house..im glad I'm not the only one!
And....my gabbard eggs are in town!!! I won't be setting them til tomorrow, and I still have quail eggs coming. Soooo..I have some to set today and the rest later after my incubator is stabalized. ITs all working out. *phew
Okay hatchers, we are down to the wire and Countrygirl needs some help. What kind of bator are you using? Have you hatched in it before? Are there any issues with the heat source? Are the vents plugged? Do you trust your thermometer(s)? Experienced people, chime in!

I taped it really well and I am going to keep a close eye on it. No exploding eggs in the bator for me.
