Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Oh, Deb, no Silver Campines? I was going to live vicariously through you!

No, no Silvers this year................six months from now the story might be different. Tomorrow I'll post a picture of a Silver chick.

Now Goldens, that's different. DH won't even let me put them in the eating eggs. He wants to set them ALL! He's the one that insisted I buy the third bator. I keep telling him they don't have to go into every set!

Ok, all caught up! :th

I will post how many and what kind I am setting tomorrow, after I set the eggs.

Good night all, I have to be up at 3:45 in the morning to feed 17 calves and milk almost 100 cows at a farm where I work.

Weather condition right now. It sure was very warm today, and got lots of sun. I got tanned from working outside at the farm in MARCH!!

Is that a fridge turned bator? Lots of gadgets on top. How successful are ur hatches?
By the time I would come up with something like that I might as well spend out the money on the real deal. But looks like a fun project.

Yes it is and only cost me a little less than $35 to build. maintains temp and my hatch rates have been 85% to 90% Here are a couple pics from earlier this afternoon

I'm gonna set (hopefully) 2 or 3 dozen tomorrow afternoon. I need to stoc up on some eggs, coz mine only had 12 today! And I have 60+ layer-type chickens! And they were clean this time, so none were cracked.

I have a single St Patricks day EExCochin so far and a single button quail. Theyre a day early, coz I sat a day late.

I'm likely gonna set over 100 button quail eggs(anyone want any?) On the 22nd.

My mom is gonna kick my butt! I sold 20 or so today at a farm swap, but I have 60 more due to hatch any time tonight~!

I just bought several sheets of plastic canvas. I'm going to try to make baskets that I can adapt when I know how many will be going into lock down. I'm thinking the length of the bator and maybe 2.5 inches wide? Then I can zip tie in as many dividers as I need. I know there are a couple of eggs that I want to know exactly what hatches out of them. They will have their own little cubbie.

Listen to me. Talking like any of them are going to hatch at all !!!

With gazillions of different eggs all in one bator, how do you tell who is who when they hatch

I am thinking I need to separate mine, and I think it was Java Girl who referred to hatching baskets a while back. Got pictures?

We've got three weeks to kill

so talk to me peeps, how do YOU do it?

Marking my spot.

My incubator has been having a hard time staying at a steady temp. I've been trying not to run the A/C until I have to so it gets cold at night and about 80 degrees during the day. I think I may have to kick the A/C on for my bator's sake, poor eggs lol. If they live through this incubation they will be some hardy birds!

And to show off my Cayuga in her redneck mud pool lol... She is happy with it though.
