Gahhhh! Trying not to panic got home and thermometers said 98! It has been storming which caused the power to flicker so the space heater was off and the house may be a little cooler. Put my new brinsea spot thermometer in and it read 97! I don't want to do too much and fry them, so I plugged one of the vent holes and turned the heater back on. How long till I should bump it up?

There was a post on the home made incubator thread that said fluctuations from 97 to 101 will not hurt the eggs as long as they don't stay high or low too long. wait a couple of hours to bump it up.

I LOVE that you are posting these photos! I'm not good at candling and love to see how things are looking. I weighed both trays of eggs today, and they have lost an appropriate amount of weight for day 3, which made me pleased. But then I candled one of the shipped eggs that had a bad air cell, and I swear it looked worse than before! I'm not turning these eggs until at least day 5, in hopes the air cells somehow repair themselves, but really, it looks pretty hopeless. :/

how do the eggs turn in that old bator??????

I have them in egg cartons and I either tilt the whole carton side-to-side or I tilt and spin the eggs within the cartons, three times each day for the first 18 days.
The original way it was designed was to put the eggs on their sides in the trays and there is a bar that slides out and back that moves the wire bottoms of the trays and this would roll the eggs. If I wasn't tech-illiterate, I'd show it in a video but............maybe someone already has one online somewhere..........
I don't use it much or I would consider putting auto turners in.
