Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Most Ingenious Chicken Design Contest entry for me is our brooder Deb rescued this from a local auction house it WAS an outdoor barbecue pit....crazy huh? used to cook em ....now is home for them... it looked nothing like this when we bought it for 20 bucks...it had a bottom brace ,which Deb made the bottom or floor of the brooder ....We decided on a baby nursery theme...and my son picked out the colors, deb designed, modified and closed it in and I decorated and painted it. So here it is our nearly seven foot long baby brooder in some of the pics you can see the GREEN house brooder where they go when they first hatch then at about a week or so they go into the big kid brooder....easy to clean you just scoop out shavings with a dust pan.The light can be lowered or raised for less or more heat and we even change out lights to lower wattage on bulbs for older babies...the little shelves make storing things easy and convenient

"All Things Grow with faith and love" little chicks parade up and doen the ledges...and all over the words...they are hot glued on

I just set 21 more eggs. Can I add those to my total? It;s no big deal if not. My neighbor asked me to set 9 Game eggs for him and I was saving eggs for Sunnydawn, but she can't safely get over the pass, so I figured I'd put those in too. I'll save closer to when I know she'll be here.

????

I think I may be able to get this stupid form to work for me. We'll see.

I still may be setting quail, but I guess this 21 eggs is a no, so I'll just leave them off.

You can count anything you set by tonight. I was able to get to it via the link that Mahonri posted. IDK why I couldn't get to it the other way. Try it!

I love the macrame netting Sueg! Very practical too. Keeps flying predators out and keeps flying chickens in. We are in the process of tenting our runs but they are huge so I just bought a bunch of deer netting. I am going to sew it together and then cover the run tent-style. We are waiting on a delivery for 12' posts for the main poles. It will ne nice and tall but it won't be nearly as colorful. I love the bright cheery colors on yours!

Oh my gosh that brooder is adorable chick-among-us!!! I saw one that Cheryl Cohen had done in a pic she posted. Also very adorable! Such creative folks we have on BYC!!!

My camera is in need of new batteries before I can take my pictures of my eggs I set. Do the turkey eggs I set count even though I set them later that I should have....they won't hatch till like a week after easter.

Jamie

Nah, they should have been set before the chicken eggs so that they would hatch Easter Weekend. It's right there in Post #1 with set times for most poultry.

I bet! I taught elementary school and the kids just love humor like this. I used to say how much I enjoyed teaching 5th and 6th graders cause they were so easy to make laugh. Especially during the lessons on the human body. They would get irate with me and say that I couldn't make them laugh! I would just whisper (with a totally straight face) "diarrhea". It worked everytime!
