Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I woke up because the entire outside of my right hand had fallen asleep. I hate that feeling.
In reality... I was sleeping in a bad position and blood flow was constricted... everything from the right side of my middle finger, ring finer and pinky on my right side had no feeling...

Then, I couldn't get on the Internet... it was down for some reason.

Now maybe I can go back to sleep...

it's cold in the family room and the bator is down to 98.4... I hope that's still compatible with life. I turned the heater on but some kid will get hot, get up and turn it right off again.

Morning folks !

honey Scg is right! Listen if you HAVE horses you recognize as will most others, that that horse is FREE, looking that nice, for a REASON he is probably one that charges you when he has food or something....do you see the pic where his ears are back? is that because there is a person standing there (holding the camera) I have seen horses with personality or behavioral issues...it looks like to me ( I certainly in all fairness cannot examine him over the net) he might have some, JUST judging from body language he is WATCHING the person with the camera and his ears are back...NOT GOOD....I PROMISE there is a reason he is that young and free...although lovely I HAVE seen that look before and the horse was "loco" long story but that is an actual condition not just a nickname....she "flipped over backwards on top of me" you are doing what you can to try and help....it would BE very hard on you and your other animals if you took it in and you couldn't house it with the other horses due to aggression, etc.just my opinion and and I am only trying to help you feel better....I will tell you like I tell my daughter, you say in this previous post " I have to figure something out" ...no you don't he isnt your horse and as of yet isnt your problem, take on one you CAN help and CAN make a difference like help POST ads for local rescues and help rehome the horses already IN shelters that are going to BE put down due to houseing issues, if you really want to make a difference...AND if they were GONNA put that horse down...that ad wouldnt be on there! They DONT want to deal with something about the animal.... I will call andask about it myself,if that would make you feel better,I bet I am right. IF they will tell me. I have five of my own....one has COPD I would NEVER put her down unless SHE was suffering...they "SAY" that to get a Response time from people.

Edited to add AFTER I caught up: I am glad it all worked out!! but you cant save them all !! trust me I DID rescue it is heartbreakingly hard also (rewarding at times also Don't get me wrong! with successes) is that horse broke? has she ridden him? NOW I REALLY hope I'm wrong!

BTW you are a FANTASTIC writer....to be so young...I truly enjoy your posts...you remind me a bit of my daughter...everyone talking about teens..I have them, would like to trade them for lint, most days...and am reminded often when they are stomping around, needing reminding to be respectful and careful least they transgress....that this is why lions EAT their young....

days until hatching day!! Be sure to make your guess for the total chicks we will be hatching. Link to the contest page is in my sig line. Some of the open contests will be closing so check the deadlines and get your entries in!!

Well I tried to catch up on the 400 or so posts I've missed but have given up.
The last pages I was on were is where chicks among us had put the smack down on a hawk.
Now I know why they say don't mess with texas. I was impressed. Good Job

Hopefully this will count even though there are more in the bator than what I listed in the form. Only 24 of the chick eggs were set for this hatchalong easter weekend. The rest are turkey eggs and there are five duck eggs The turkeys wont hatch till a week after easter and the ducks a week before lol There is also more chicken eggs due to hatch out in another eight days sooooo, I do have my 24 in here for the hatchalong even though its full of other eggs. Hope this is fine and proof that I have my eggs set.

I would like to ask for some input . I have been selling eggs at the end of my drive, clean, and in new cartons per Mass law.   I put up big signs to draw in commuters, and was barely keeping up with customer demand.  THEN a neighbor put up a small cardboard sign. Her price undercuts mine by a lot. My  sales have dropped. Several times no money has been left, or half the money has been left. Maybe 2/3 of the time the correct money has been left. I Keep the eggs in a clean cooler with an ice pack; a computer generated sign informing the price and the nice free ranging life.

My driveway is 1000 feet of gravel.

If you were a customer would you drive all the way up?
Would you be upset if the eggs were no longer available?
Does the stand need to be monitored like a lemonade stand?
Should I just drop my price?
Should I buy out her eggs and eat them myself? JK
Help me think this thru.

Sorry the neighbor is under cutting you.

Ok this is what I would do. Find out what is better about your eggs to justify the higher price. As an example, If you are not giving the chickens food that will raise their Omega 3 levels, begin doing so. Have your eggs tested to find out what the Omega three levels are(Get Ultra Kibble or feed them some Flax). Place an add in Craigs list with the price you want per dozen and yes have the new customers drive up to your house.

Have you tried to"Opec" with your Neighbor(make an agreement on the price)?

Good luck!

Ron

Ron how do you have your eggs tested. I started using Laynea Plus about 3 months ago and was interested in if it really works or am I wasting my money. Thank you Michele

lol smack down! thats funny

you know whats funny? ya'll say WOW look at you barehanded and what if it bit you and wow your brave.....no,no,NO I am NOT! I cannot say that enough...My defensless silkies and bantams were in a heep in thier safe haven and the hawk went IN there to KILL them..when he flew out..he was essentially TRAPPED inside the netting...when he hit the fence and fell on the ground I ran over and stepped on him and picked him up by his feet ...like a rooster when he raised up and tried to fly (beat his wing, escape) I just put the other hand on his chest and push him back down... I DIDN'T have any gloves with me...I couldnt RUN back to the house and leave the killing machine IN there with the babies to get some...PLUS I am stupid (cannot say this enough as I DONT want kids to read it and think to get one for fun)I was so mad I didnt WANT him to get away...I didn't do it barehanded to be brave I just didnt HAVE anything that would have made me SAFER! Also it helped him being upside down had I tried to SIT on my arm all pretty like I am CERTAIN big boy wolda tore me a new one...those TALONS were impressive! YIKES he killed to chickens with one blow to the top of one head and the back of the neck of another so the beak was seriously a weapon also.. I have anger issues people .....
