Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Oh, dear. So glad that Hoppy is happy now.

How did you know?

Humidity is 23% in the incubator right now... No matter what I do I always have sticky chicks. I think I'll just try to hatch at low humidity instead of worrying about it and making it go too far the other way. Last hatch I fogged up the incubator trying to add humidity... and still had disgusting chicks.

I planned to put mine in lock down tonight along with a final candling. I probably should check for early pips myself. It seems to be an epidemic. I haven't caught up on the 10 pages i'm behind on. Too much to do around here for all that reading. I hope I didn't miss anything exciting. Did I miss who won the cutest baby pic contest? Last time I looked it wasn't posted who won. I still have to get my flapper pic posted.

My DH seems a bit miffed that I had to throw out 13 eggs (I think he was under the impression that 27 eggs means at least 27 chicks, I tried to tell him

)
My DH struggles with this too. But he gets sad, I keep trying to explain the shipped egg concept. He keeps saying, NO MORE SHIPPED EGGS! If I get a pair or better yet a 1.2 trio out of a breed, I'm happy!

look for cocci, or low blood sugar Yorkie pups are good at that

Java, won't quote on you last post..lol..that was long..good for you for catching up! I guess I counted wrong, I recounted when you said that, no, I don't have 11 kids, I have 12! His, mine and ours! One big happy family! Really! They are all married or moved out now, but one, and he will be going out on a mission for our church this year...sniff..such a great kid to have around. He's kept us young feeling.
Now my turn to catch up on reading and posting.

Had a sad thing with our little Yorkie last night. I really thought I just may wake up to a dead pup in the morn. Just from how he was acting. I was in tears, he was in the middle of my hubby and myself. He was shaking, shivering, stretching his legs out..I got up and fed him a boiled egg because I had noticed he hadn't eaten much that day, but he barely wanted it. Now won't eat this morning. Vet took blood, will call in a couple of hrs. They will look for that liver shunt problem that the yorkies can have. They will be checking him for all sorts of things with the blood work. Still not eating. He's gone potty, not too worried about obstruction. ??

Let the hatching begin !!

I think someone told the chickies about the Easter bunny and now they are all in a rush to see him!

My kids want me to take them outside to ride bikes but I just want to sit here and stare at my eggs :(

I didn't know Ameraucanas had a tendency to hatch early. That might explain my last hatch of early birds. Every last one of them was at least 50% Ameraucana. I think they hatched about 2 days early.

Yep they are early birds! hee hee (OK I must be tired. I'm laughing at my own jokes and they aren't even very funny).

I threw out 26 eggs today, Today is day 24 and no signs of life.. I cleaned the bator and I just put the last 4 of my eggs in lockdown, I wasn't planning on setting more then the 41 but my hens started laying and I just had to try to hatch some out. All 4 looked good when I candled.

I hope I get some babies from my own flock.

Its possible I may be in the running for worst hatch rate lol. This being my first hatch though, I'm happy that I got the 8 chicks that I did.

I would be happy with 8. I've got 3 in lockdown from 50 something eggs set. But I'll be happy if at least 2 of those hatch.
