Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Me too! And getting grumpier by the hour.

OK, I have to keep reminding myself that they probably won't hatch til Sunday! I am ok with this, I am ok with this, I am.....

I'm there with ya!! My brinsea is popping them out like popcorn, but nothing out of the 20+ eggs in the styrobator. I didn't have any spikes that I know about so hopefully my temps were just low and they are still coming. I know for a fact the leghorn eggs in there had rockin' embryos so they had better get moving! :)

OHHHHHHHHH, and did I mention I have 3 broodies sitting? So, they think anyway. Tonight (well, last night) when I locked up the chickens, there were 3 girls on nests. 1 Icelandic, 1 Barred Rock, and 1 New Hampshire. I already have an Icelandic brooding 6 chicks. I think I will open up the broody buster pen. Sheeeesh, PLEASE, not a repeat of last year!

Update on my hatch thus far:

Swedish Flower Hens: Start 13: 1 egg cracked, 12 remaining
4 hatched, 3 pipped
Cream Legbar: Start 4: 1 clear, 1 blood ring; 2 remaining
1 hatched, 1 no sign of life
Blue Laced Red Wyandottes: Start 14: 1 blood ring, 1 quitter, 12 remaining
10 hatched, 1 pipped
Silver Hamburgs: Start 3, remaining 3
3 hatched
Ameraucaunas: Start 12, 2 clear, 1 quitter, 9 remaining
8 hatched, 1 no sign of life

Start total: 46 eggs. Remaining 38 eggs, 26 hatched, 4 more pips

Woke up to one zipping, one pipped. Mine are right on time. You people with your early hatches are driving me crazy. I set my eggs on a Sat. around 5pm -6pm so they shouldn't technically be hatching until tomorrow right?

Big mistake using the Sportsman. I think I've not only killed off this hatch, but my next 4 hatches too. Now I know why my hatches have been so bad the last 3. Cause I'm stupid!

You'll be hatching all day, tonight and tomorrow, yeah, that's right on time.

I set at noon. Have 4 chicks and many pips. Three of those hatched from 10 to 11 last night. See? Right on time too, about 12 hours before set time and should go 12 hours after or more.

One chick is out in the hovabator and I have more pips. Some of the hovabator chicks don't count as 'hovabator' hatches - they are overflow when I locked down in the brinsea so they were 18 days with perfect temp and humidity. I'm waiting to see something pip that spent the whole time in the hova. :p Still, I now have 16 chicks out, including SIX NN from SCG. =)

I'd call that a successful hatch!
There you go!

Weeeell, I'm glad I already have 15 chicks in the brooder, or I'd have been upset this morning to see that neither of the two pips on the Saturday-eggs did much of anything overnight. I had a second pip around 9:30 pm last night, and it looks like the first pip punched a second hole.

That's it. That's their whole night's labor.

Silly chickens.

Anyway, I'm going to go out and wake up the big chickens, come back in, and check on chick-in-a-cup. I hope he's doing better today. I'll get him some water, and later this morning I need to change Sneakers' shoes. I need to squeeze in a chick photo shoot at some point. That'll be a riot. Hmm...

(Hey, where's my coffee? Good idea...)
