Good morning! My little peeps (one of them anyway) kept me up most of the night. Someone asked what hatched, it was mostly swap eggs from Jim's January Swap... I got 18 olive eggers and some anconas and some other mixes. I'd say it was a good swap. One of the anconas I had to de-shell yesterday morning and it's still a bit weak. Last night it managed to get crammed into the corner of the brooder and I finally got up around 2 AM to find out what the problem was (ie WHY was there so much screaming in the brooder) only to find a cool chick. It continued to scream all night, even after rescue. I just plucked it out of the brooder a few minutes ago and held it in my hand under my shirt, and it immediately fell asleep and was content. If only it were that easy for me to get some sleep, too.
It wasn't walking well last night (but doesn't need booties) and it didn't open its eyes until a bit ago. Wish I had a broody momma for it, it seems to want snuggles.

Time to go find the visine and take a quick shower.

I really did break it, huh? I'm ascared to back there, I might move us all to the north pole.

I do belive a hatch or two back I moved someone off the coast of Rhode Island...

Fear not, practice makes perfect and I've since put myself on without tossing anyone into the sea.

No you are not the only looney one out here. I like to keep track as well!! I have only hatched a hand full of times and always refer back to previous records. I print out a spreadsheet where I record everything even what time I turned the eggs,

Beyond looney here! I've only hatched twice, and my records kind of fizzled out around hatch time, but I did record all the humidities and such. I also have a graph of egg production, garden maps going back to the 80's, a graph of my running (even though it's been at zero a lot this winter), a seed inventory, and freezer inventories and maps!

hey, I have a Q, I was doing a poster for my turkeys to say what the price is for EGGS, DAY OLD POULTS AND 6 WEEK POULTS. and my mom is asking me why my bourbon reds are more then the narragansetts and I toled her that the BR are breeder stock and the NARR are hatchery stock. so my Q is wood you pay more for breeder stock then hatchery stock?? oh by the way, my BR"S ARE $ 2.00 for eggs, $ 7.00 for day old poults and $12.00 for 6 week old poults. the NARR are $1.00 for eggs, $6.00 for day old poults and $10.00 for 6 week old poults. what do you all think of this ???

It's good to see so many new and familiar peeps joining in! We have

days until we set chicken eggs..call ducks in between here..only

days until mallard derivative ducks or turkeys..goose eggs in between here...only

days for Muscovy ducks....and if you're setting emu eggs you'd better have them already in the 'bator or under a broody male (yes, the males brood the eggs..no, I'm not joking)!!

"Breeder stock" to me, means the breeder is breeding to Standard of Perfection guidelines or specific guidelines (like production of eggs or meat by a certain date). I would only pay more for breeder stock if it met my particular needs. I think your prices are reasonable, I would buy 6 week old poults for 10 or 12 dollars if they were healthy and robust.

Hatchability Hints & Secrets

Could we please keep these going? I love hearing others tricks and secrets. Let's do it for the good of the hatch and for the good of the fowl.

## If separated before egg collection begins, give the rooster and hens enough time to get to know each other before the beginning of egg collection. Two weeks seems a safe bet. Sometimes the hens take a little bit of time to get used to the new guy on the block before she starts accepting his advances. Until she accepts his overtures, we can be collecting and filling our incubator with duds. That's been my experience, but your mileage may vary.

For sure! It's being tested now, here it is with the trays in! Are you hatching in yours too? or just doing the first 18 days like me. I have a couple digital king suro that I will entrust the last precious days too!

Hiya! I haven't decided yet- I made it using heat elements from old LGs and not lightbulbs, and I have 2 elements on the floor and one on the ceiling. I installed the fan on the bottom to circulate the air better and found that it works great to keep a consistent temp the way I've channeled the air, so I'm dont messing with it...but I have the big space on the bottom, not the top of the cabinet.

I didn't anticipate NOT using it as a hatcher, and I have it FULL of eggs, so this time it will be my hatcher. I haven't a choice! All of my other incubators are full. Today is lockdown, so now I'll be working on humidity, as I've been doing a dry incubation in it.
