Welcome to the Hatchalong! Make sure to PM Mahonri.

Don't be scared of hatching--be scared of liking it too much. What are you going to hatch?

I have about 10 eggs from a little silver Campine hen that was killed a last Saturday, do you think the eggs will keep till then? I sure miss her. I would also love to have some dark egg-layers like BCMs or even Wellsummers but I don't know of anyone around here that has them and I have never ordered eggs through the mail. I would be worried with so many "firsts" combined together it would mess with my success and I wouldn't know what was the actual cause. I think I will try some of the eggs from my hens and branch out from there (unless there is someone out there with Campine or BCM eggs they are willing to gamble with. LOL!)

It's the calm before the storm today... I opened up the chicken's Turtle Sandbox Spa for their dusting and pecking enjoyment. For those of you that live in an area where the ground doesn't freeze solid for 5 months of the year and then turn to mud for another two, consider yourself lucky.

Just curious . . . is anyone else doing the "incubator shuffle"? I have eggs in incubator #1 that are due March 15th (hope they aren't late as I'm cutting it veeeery close there), eggs in incubator #2 due to hatch on March 9th. Just got eggs today that I will put in incubator #1 tomorrow (due March 21st). After the eggs in incubator #2 hatch I will move the eggs due to hatch on March 15th into it. My calendar looks ridiculous with all the hatch dates/numbers scrawled on it - when set, when to candle, when to lockdown, when due to hatch. And then there is the brooder shuffle: brooder in the house containing a dozen 12 day old chicks, little brooder in the layer coop containing four 5 1/2 week olds and the big brooder with a dozen 3 1/2 week old chicks. Oldest will be shuffled to the "nursery/grow out pen" this weekend and house chicks head to the little brooder so I have time to get the house brooder cleaned and ready for the batch due to hatch on March 9th. I need a secretary just to keep up with my chickens, lol! Oh, pardon me, I meant an "administrative chicken assistant"

If I'm not too late. I would like to do this. New incubator coming this week sometime and still have an old LG that I might use if I can get a fan rigged up in time. It will only be my second hatch attempt ever

and only on my third hatch.

I have 11 out of 20 Dorking eggs developing at day 10. I have a dozen of near show quality Dorking eggs coming that should be delivered today. I have 15 EO Basque eggs set for delivery on March 16th for this hatch. I will be incubating in one Genesis 1588 and hatching in the other. It all works in my head--let's hope the reality of it all will work...

Quote: yes I just put in some eggs that will move to the hatcher on the 16th and I have 2 more shipments of eggs coming this week that will need a place, not to mention the eggs due tomorrow and more next week. DH is going to build me some out door grow out pens so the basement chickens can move outside and the mud room chickens can move to the basement while the brooder chicks move to the mud room...... I think that is it.
