Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well I may be in I'll update later lol... My husband suprised me with a bator this morning

. With one condition... I don't buy eggs

I'm not sure he knows how this works since my hens aren't laying, this will be their first year to lay so who knows when they will start. This will be our first time to incubate eggs if we get any

No dogs here, just cats. If I drop something on the floor the cats will walk over, look at it and walk away, tail held high. nothing I eat holds much interest for them. :p

That's the same for us; our kitties won't clean up anything. They will, however, keep company in the bathroom and take full advantage of a captive lap

A surprise bator, how cool is that! That hubby is a keeper!

Ditto here... and one of the cats is super freaky and will sit on the edge of the tub and stare at you while you're bathing. Creeps me out. If you stick your toes out of the tub he'll lick them too. And if you close and lock the door it's just scratching, pushing and whining. No peace here.

Yes you were spoiled with your own eggs. I have terrible luck with shipped eggs! I think the Reno PO likes to play football with them or something.

The folks at my local PO are very sweet but somewhere in transit these eggs are getting scrambled. I'd rather drive for hours and hours to pick up eggs than get any more shipped eggs.

I sure hope that all the rest make it!!!

I ordered a bag of Chicken Wheat from a place in Oregon called Azure Standard. They have trucks they send down from Oregon to different parts of CA. My Drop in in Vavaville and a lady with chickens had 12 bags of Chicken Wheat and she accidentally took my one bag with her. I met the Lady and her Husband on 80 on the way home and we had a chat about my recent loss of chickens in shipping. It turns out the husband drives a truck for the Postal Service

His information was that Fedex flies the packages! Fedex may be scrambling the eggs.

Yes, if you get 50% out of shipped eggs you are doing well. I set 12 Dorking eggs last Thursday and none of them had good air cells. Yesterday I had 6 out of 12 developing. The air cells are slowly coming back. Now I just have to wait and see how many make it to lock down and hatch.

I hear that Skyline from the Basque thread has great results with his shipping. He has a video about it on his web site. It looks like he packs them inside foam. I can't wait to see how he packs them. I get mine on the 16th for the hatch

I thought so myself lol... He woke me up with the bator and an egg turner and said "So are you gonna be mad if I take your truck all day?" He is still a man and has his alterior motives
lau.gif
. He is getting smarter with his bribes cause they are working.

I know that with 46%, it's pretty good for shipped eggs. Most of the good results came from the quail that were just freebies, probably bound for freezer camp.

The
hit.gif
part is the lakenvelder only resulted in 12.5% of the eggs I purchased.

I have no problems with ulterior motives if in my mind I come out the winner!

Yes that is bad. My first hatch was a dozen Lemon Orpingtons. All but two were duds and they were late quitters. I had a 0% Hatch rate. I was very sad. The second hatch was much better, but I picked those eggs up from a local Breeder.

Sorry for the low hatch rate.

Ummmmm, this sounds like the perfect time for us BYCers with a few extra, fertile eggs to offer to donate 'em to Pinx, so she won't have to "BUY" any eggs!

Hmmm?
