Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I've considered trying something like that so I probably will this time. Of course it doesn't help if they don't develop at all. The 12 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs from peachick all clear at 9 days

That was an expensive flop. I wish you better luck Mahonri!

Oooo, owww! Yep, that would smart a bit. I've drooled over peachick's birds/eggs for a while but just won't take the shipping gamble on them due to the expense. It's bad enough when you buy eggs at average costs and they don't hatch! Out of 13 GC Marans eggs, I have one left at 10 days. Most had detached air cells and never even started developing. Still, shipped eggs are the only way to get most of the breeds on my wish list, so I continue to buy them. I am definitely trying the method suggested by aveca's vet the next time I have a bunch with detached air cells though. It certainly can't hurt!
Thanks for sharing that ronott1!

Once again, I say to yet another poster.....................Where are your priorities? You should definitely quit that job that keeps you away from home. Your life's intended day job is to spend as many hours as possible with your nose pressed to the incubator window. At least, I've convinced my DH that is my life's work. Right now I'm in the house, messing around between here, putting eggs into lockdown and staring at the ones that started to pip last night.

He is outside working on additional coops/runs. Isn't that how it's intended to be?

Ha ha! I keep trying to explain this to my husband, lol. I work at home so at least I can take breaks from the workshop and run over to the house to press my nose to the incubator. Sometimes I just bring whatever I have to work on over to the house so I can peek in and watch when chicks are hatching. My husband built me one coop and cleaned out an existing storage shed for me to use for another. He says if I want any more coops I have to build them myself (which I have been doing). He has also commented that if he'd realized how much owning chickens would improve my carpentry skills he'd have encouraged my chicken "obsession" long ago!

Now he just wants to know when I am planning to finish the remodeling we started last year. I'll start on that just as soon as I am finished building my chicken coops.

I am home today, myself. Had a vision problem: Just couldn't see myself going to work.

(Not really, just not up to snuff today - needing a lot of rest.)

And it was serendipitous! The retired couple next door had gravel delivered for their parking pad, and the man of the house asked if I wanted to talk to the Gravel Guys (for my driveways). He also wanted some eggs..... And he told me it's been great since the "extra" roosters left. He still hears Carl, but there aren't any Crow Competitions any more. He knows there's "another" rooster (there are a total of five) but he said it sounds like Carl and "that rooster" are just doing flock work instead of crowing all the time.

So, on top of that wonderful news, I got an acceptable quote to gravel my driveway! Mr. Retiree said it had been YEARS since any gravel was put down here and he was glad to make the referral. When that's done, I won't have to park at the bottom of the drive and walk up when it's been raining!!

I'll hire the kids on the OTHER side of my property to spread the gravel. (Spreading the wealth around within the 'hood.)

108 more work days before I retire.

Made some plans to get more eggs for this Hatch.

Oh, I don't think it was a problem on her end. They could have been X-rayed or frozen or anything. Not here in Iowa, it was in the 40s here, but somewhere along the way.
