Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I have some EE's that I am planning to set, seven to be exact, plus what ever I can collect this week. Kowgurl62 has agreed to set me up with some Wellsummer and/or Marans eggs to add to my hatch. Dark eggs to add color to my basket! I'm so excited! Now to get well so I can go pick them up (she lives about 45 minutes from me) and see her birds!

By the way, is it "MARE - ans" or is it "Ma - RANS"?

I've always said it, Mar anns

Not that I should complain (since we need it desperately) but we we are having a weirdly wet week...

Our area, North of Reno, normally gets 7.5" of precip a year and has over 300 sunny days a year. As you westerners already know, this winter has been super mild (with a couple of exceptions) so Reno doesn't have the normal snow pack we need to get through summer. However we have been seeing a lot of cloudy days lately but not much rain so I guess I should be happy. But rain here means snow on the pass and that means hazardous driving conditions, again, to go pick up eggs! We get nothing for weeks but as soon as I need to drive over the pass for chicks or eggs...

I think, in the future, every time we start worrying about drought in our area they should just send me on a trip over Donner Pass. "Send Sunny out for egg pick up! ... Yea! Drought averted."

BTW I've heard marans pronounced both ways. By at least 2 different folks that speak fluent French! I am veeeery confused.

Today's evacuees from the incubator.
17 bobwhite quail

BCM (8), GC, SC & Lakenvelder

This is my poor deformed lakenvelder, one bulgy eye and a slightly crossed beak. I've named her Popeye (very imaginative). If she's a she, she can join my egg flock. If she's a he, he can join the two feral bantam roosters that live in my front pasture.

That quail should be named "Atty," as in attitude! hahaha
What a cutie!
