Got 10 eggs out of 15 hens today. I really need to figure out who the freeloaders are and rehome or dispatch them to the freezer...

Well, I'm going to hit the sac early tonight. The 7 hours of driving yesterday did me in.

I suppose I should also make a 'general announcement" that I deactivated my FB account. I've had a goodly number of peeps e-mailing me asking why I de-friended them.
Technically, I didn't, I just decided it wasn't for me at this time.

DW wants me to get back on so I can get contact info for friends as DS#1 just became engaged to be married on the 20th of June.
Crazy kids. Don't know how they are going to make a living, all I can do is have faith and pray for them.

And it's our final week folks. I'll be checking the mail everyday WED, THROUGH Saturday and I hope they all make it before Noon on Saturday. I've still got to get the Genesis out of storage... probably tomorrow morning.

I've also got to fix a screw hole in the Brinsea... but I've got some awesome JB Weld that I feel certain will do the trick!

G'nite everybody!

We went to the fireworks stand and bought packs of firecrackers to "shoo" them with but when we got home we didn't see any sign of them. I saw a rump moving into the trees today but was unable to tell if it was inside the fence or outside. time will tell...

First, that is quite the visual, thanks for the giggle. Second, I love that relaxed "silence" when the pest is evicted so everyone else can have some peace.

WOO HOO!

What kinda chicken lays lavender eggs?

You take a pink chicken and a blue chicken, stick em in a bag and shake em up! LOL

She cheats but you won... Anyone else reading between the lines here

1 tsp of cayenne to about 3 pounds of feed. Works like a charm but may take a day or 3 to kick in so start now.

Iceland is actually rather temperate. Much warmer than Alaska, BUT, I believe we are comparable with north and south Dakota as far as winter temps are concerned

How many incubators will you have running for the Easter Hatch?

That's all they really need from you..... love, faith, and prayers. You've already given your best, in raising your son. They'll be fine. I bet they will be just fine....

I'm all caught up now. Kind of worried about one of my hens, (don't know if it matters but she has never laid an egg) but all day today she was walking around fluffed and kept finding corners to lay in. Other then that she was acting fine and so are my other hens. While the other chickens were walking around scratching she was laying down in a hole she made herself watching. She is 9 months old and the only thing laying is my duck and her eggs are collected every morning. I don't know whats wrong with her. Maybe tomorrow I'll go out and she will have snapped out of it.

I'm so excited about my eggs in the bator!! I'm only 1 day in almost and I can't stand it. This is going to be a long 3 weeks.

i am on a little remote keyboard that needs to be recharged and now i will seem like i am more witless than usual because typing i can't do. i am nt cught up!

(I just wrote a big long post and lost it. Sometimes Firefox takes me back a page when I hit backspace and I lose everything!

For the past few years that I've had my house, I've had a woodchuck ("Woody")

We could have coexisted beautifully together.

Woody musta had kids.

here's hopin' fer peaceful coexistence. maybe a stomping emu would deter Woody: The Sequel.

Here's my little broody:

And here's the saddle I made yesterday. She looks comfortable enough, so I guess I did okay. Who knew old undies would come in so handy?

Now I ain't throwin' nuthin' away.

cutie pie broody! did your hen with saddle walk backward at First?

Chestnutty is going to have piles of old discolored undies and socks. "I will use these, someday..."

This makes me laugh, because when I was preggers with my 2nd, some lady from work gave me all her old maternity underwear.
  1. WHO SHARES UNDERWEAR???!!
  2. What kind of person gives old maternity undies to a WORK ACQUAINTENCE? Do you know what kind of horrors happen during a pregnancy?
  3. The undies were so big, when I tried them on (over my work clothes), I would have had to tuck the top elastic under my bra to hold them up. I made the other cubie dogs giggle with a little fashion show.

why discolored?

answer to #1: 1st cousins

solution to #3: suspenders made from ChestnutRidge's underwear elastic

I've been selling my straight runs at $2 when they are a day or two old. So far, I've sold every one I can come up with to the first person that calls.

thanks.

being this far behind in reading posts is a mite bit discouraging. i feel like a nascar racer gettin' lapped. how's that for a fitting simile? i won't catch up for day or 2. PM me if you need to.

For the past few years that I've had my house, I've had a woodchuck ("Woody") that has munched on my garden and destroyed many of my crops. Woody was a bear to trap - he was suspicious of traps, and wouldn't go in them, regardless of the bait that I used. As an extra bonus, traps that I'd put out for Woody ended up with all sorts of wonderful things in them, notably skunks, housecats and a bobcat. So then I tried shooting Woody. Woody was quick, and smart. Woody would see me IN THE HOUSE grabbing the gun and bolt. Woody could hear me sneak around the house outside, and go running. Woody would hear doors open and go running. I must have shot at Woody 40 times, and never caught him. Boyfriend shot at him probably 10 times, too. Finally, last fall, the boyfriend got Woody with two bullets. When I went out to collect his carcass a few minutes later, Woody was gone. I smelled him, though, a few days later, and was pretty sure he was dead.

I was happy, and relieved. Sorry that it had to go that way, but there's plenty to eat around here that isn't crops for humans. We could have coexisted beautifully together.

A few minutes ago I was sitting on the front stoop of the chicken coop, FatOne in my lap, petting her, and watching the NYD chicks to make sure everything was ok.

The rooster sounded an alarm, everyone went running under the coop. A large bald eagle was flying over head. Good boy!

The chickens all come out a few minutes later, then the roo makes another strange noise, and all the girls turn to the driveway.

What do I see crossing the driveway?

Woody musta had kids.

(ETA: The elastic came from the old undies. I do not want to know all the ways that could have been misconstrued.

Tried so hard to catch up...and was planning on a trip to Lowes so I can revise my incubator before the hatch...and then my 18 mo. sliced his foot open on my metal broom that snapped in half. Ended up in the ER for about 4 hours, they decided on Glue because although the cut went into the muscle and took about 8 min. of pressure to stop the bleeding. but his skin so thin and its on his foot. Soooo...the glue didn't work and his foot split open again today and bled fairly heavy. *sigh we still will go to lowes but no walking for the little man.

And....the person hooking me up with turkey eggs fell through. I'm sad.

ARE YOU IN NY. I HAVE TURKEY EGGS BUT CAN'T SHIP THEM.

Quote:
Gah! That's horrible!! What's wrong with these docs....? Don't they know that glue must be coupled with vet wrap!? Sheesh...they'd never make it on a farm.

were they out of Duck tape

THIS REMINDS ME OF THE SAYING, I can fix anything......... WHERE THE DUCK TAPE?!?!?!?!?!?

Bucka... I know just where the 2 holes are, or at least I did last year - assuming they haven't changed. One's by the septic tank, of course, so I probably shouldn't try the gas bomb.

Although it sounds wicked awesome. I'd like to blow those groundhogs from here to Mars.

IF YOU DO IT BY THE SEPTIC TANK............ BYE, BYE WOODY JR FROM MARS !!!!!!!!
