Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

You'll get some beautiful turkeys and best of all they'll taste just like turkey

my mixes actually grew faster than the pures and they were so pretty to look at that's how the Blue who's real name is Pretty Boy got to stay that and he loves me follows me everywhere and if I dally too long on the computer comes and gets me.....

Oh he'll like turkeys, much less messy than ducks! Tons of personality and very tasty!

I'll join the hatch! I'll just have mixes from my little flock but I don't mind

What do you get when you cross a black or naraganset Tom on slate, royal palm and bronze hens?

Goodness did I just agree to another hatch after this one?

Must be the cough medicine talking.

I pulled a muscle in my chest coughing last night... I'll take the dizziness from the cough syrup over continued coughing!

Boyfriend doesn't hate the ducks... I do all the daily caretaking, but he did put a tarp up over them and built them some stairs for their tub (which they refuse to use). He also enjoys squirting them with the hose (the feeling is mutual though).

I'm just, you know, not really sure how much farther I have to go before I turn into that crazy poultry lady that's no longer worth living with!

And not sure I can justify squeezing turkeys into the coop. I have a serious banty infestation in the coop right now, I'm worried that PigPen would get squished.

I also believe you about the flying thing - you haven't lived unless a flock of wild turkeys has flown across your path - driving or walking.

OK, all of you turkey-hatchin' wannabes.

There are now a ton of us talking about this, and I don't intend to start a new thread to have a Pre-Turkey Hatchalong chat, but I do want to start to consolidate ideas and assess whether we really are interested in doing this together. I haven't hatched turkeys before and will want to do at least 2 dozen, so having joiners would be good for me.

If we set on Easter, we'll hatch on Cinco de Mayo! I know some of us will still be hatching straggles from this go-round, but we are flexible, right? We can figure it out.

I want a couple of dozen, at least, so those of you who've contacted me about eggs, I'm in, even if I haven't answered you- I'll get to that soon.

Anyone interested in joining the Turkeython, please pm me so I can see the numbers and know if this is a feasible todo.

Hooray!!

I'm in too, I should be receiving Royal Palm eggs around Easter time.

I hope you all are PM'ing Renee about joining in. I don't want to take up too much time on this thread chatting about this but I am stoked to do this next one.
SCG you have agreed, it is in writing, it is a binding contract. See I figured you would cave to the presssah!

As far as coop space goes, I don't know how much more room you will need. Mine refuse to sleep in the coop unless the weather is very nasty. They prefer to roost on top of one of my smaller coops. They do like to roost high. (more great information I got from Denny before she sent the eggs) I also know that people have had issues with them going back into their pens at night if you let them free range. I haven't had that issue. When I first moved them outside, I kept them in the pen for about three weeks with the chicks that they hatched out with. Once I was sure that the big chickens weren't going to attack them, I let them all out together. Now, when it is time to put them up for the night, the treat bucket comes out and all birds follow me back to the pen 99% of the time. (sometimes I have to play chase a chicken for the silly ones that can't find that door LOL)

Shoot! They looked so pink on my monitor. Yes EEs sometimes lay pink eggs.

My partner in Chicken Math gets pink eggs from his EEs. He also gets a light plum colored one -- sort of a frosty overlay on a pink-brown egg that makes it look purplish. He can't wait for the Marans to start laying, and he wants to find chickens that lay a golden/brown egg. He's crazier about colored eggs than I am.

I love different colored eggs! Would love to get some of these eggs (pink and purple). Does he sell chicks or hatching eggs?

Bourbon Red though because you could have Bronze turkeys I've been marking mine RB..my Bourbons seem to be good travelers and by Easter will be laying very good or I'll have some mixes and personally think those are much cooler. I have a Blue penciled turkey that is really cool looking that I'm going to cross with Auburns and Midget Whites the color possibilities are endless

I'd also love to hatch out some turkeys!!! We are only feeding a few these days now that the kids are all grown. A couple will come but not the army I used to feed. A firend has 4 something pounders (after processing). That is just way too much turkey for us!!!

So the reference to MRSA caught my eye, took my 21 yr old to dr today to have a cyst removed. We were worried about MRSA as she'd been exposed.turns out, not a cyst. Now we're testing for Hodgkins. Who would have thought that MRSA would be the better outcome? So now I'm sleepless.

Oh I am sooo sorry!!! I have no advice. Just hugs!!!
