Ok first i have no idea what to do about my hygrometers and I just bought 3 aquarium thermometers and 2 digital fever thermometers. Put hot water in a cup, placed 3 aquarium in there til the temp stablalized, put the 2 digital in there til they beeped. The 2 digital were 2 degrees off eachother, and 10 degrees higher than the 3 aquarium thermometers. But they took my oral temp and were pretty accurate. So what does that mean? Neither go very high so I can't do the boiling water calibration. And the digitals def. don't go low enough to measure with ice. *sigh the hatching Gods hate me.

Sad morning this morning, just got back from taking DD to school and found one of my rabbits dead and another one missing. I am seriously dreading telling the kids......

Well, DD took it very well. Amazingly as I was walking in here I got distracted and walked out on the back porch to find the missing rabbit hopping toward me. Diesel has come home from out of the woods. YAY

We are sad to lose Rex but I am relieved to know that Diesel is safe and sound.

I received 25 EO eggs from James this morning. He is very responsive to customers.
Go to the first post on the Basque Hen thread. Click on the link to skyline Poultry. James has 80 hens now and he says they lay better than his Leghorns, so He is having no trouble filling orders. At least 3 of us are hatching his eggs for this hatchalong.
I wonder what happened to my eggs? Shipped from James on Monday, and the tracking stops with Chattanooga, 10 p.m. Monday night. Today was the expected delivery date, but they are not here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow. Meanwhile, I received my Marans and Ameraucana eggs from the west coast (also shipped out on Monday). None were broken! :) The Ameraucana eggs are very small, but pretty. I tried to look at the air cells. It looks like a map of the world under the shell. I couldn't tell what it was, but DH thinks that is the air cell, -broken up in many pieces and spread very thin in splotches. Is that what a broken air cell looks like? Is there hope if it looks like that? The Marans eggs are perfectly round, and I don't know which end is up. I read about how to deal with that issue somewhere, - now to go find it. :)

Use the one that got the closest to 98.6 for your temperature. Don't use the others--that will drive you crazy.

You can pay less attention to the humidity. Follow the dry hatch instructions, which includes stuffing the water channels with paper towels before adding the water at lockdown.

my last hatch, humidity read 41 to 46% most of the time. These were not shipped eggs. I had 100% hatch that made it to lockdown. This hatch I have humidity at 31 to 36% and my Brinsea spot check with the water weasel reads 99.1 to 99.3. You want the internal temperature of the egg to be 99.5. The water weasel probe mimics the egg. The Incubator warehouse thermometer(I use it for the hygrometer on it) reads 100.2 most of the time. A degree up or down from there is fine. If they don't hatch on day 21, adjust the temp for the next hatch using the same thermometer. I would not adjust more than half of a degree unless they are very early or very late.

Lockdown humidity read 69 to 75%. Absolutely no shrink wrap. The last chick sat pipped for 12 hours or so and still hatched fine. They were a bit wet, so I worked on getting the humidity down for this hatch. I am using one of those stainless steel sauce holders that they use in like say Cattlemans restaurant

I don't know how that got to my house.

I hope this helps,

Ron
