Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I was worried about the package getting lost too.

send an email to James to see if he can figure out what happened from his end.

Good luck!

Ron
I wonder what happened to my eggs? Shipped from James on Monday, and the tracking stops with Chattanooga, 10 p.m. Monday night. Today was the expected delivery date, but they are not here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I received my Marans and Ameraucana eggs from the west coast (also shipped out on Monday). None were broken!

The Ameraucana eggs are very small, but pretty.
I tried to look at the air cells. It looks like a map of the world under the shell. I couldn't tell what it was, but DH thinks that is the air cell, -broken up in many pieces and spread very thin in splotches. Is that what a broken air cell looks like? Is there hope if it looks like that? The Marans eggs are perfectly round, and I don't know which end is up. I read about how to deal with that issue somewhere, - now to go find it.

Those of you familiar with Mahonri's other hatches, we're bringing back the Caption That Photo Contest! It will start on set day:

9. Caption That Photo Contest WEEK ONE CONTEST
A photo to caption will be posted on the Easter Hatch Thread on Saturday 17 March 2012. Captions must be submitted to the Easter Hatch Thread by midnight on 23 March 2012. This contest is for the best caption/thought bubbles/explanation to the photo posted. Make us laugh, y'all!

Those of you unfamiliar with the Caption That Photo Contest, the photo to caption for judging will be posted on the thread on Saturday. You'll have a week to figure out what is happening in the photo and tell us. Think of it as similar to a Far Side Cartoon...

You can have the hordes of them out of my yard. They eat EVERYTHING!!! At least, everything the deer leave!

When I go to the nursery and discuss plants, they ask if I want something deer resistant. I say no, I want something they will eat, choke to death and die.

There is almost nothing I can plant that doesn't get eaten unless it's fenced behind a VERY tall fence. They don't seem to like daffodils or zinnas. Most things are fair game to the deer and turkeys.

Okay, wildlife rant over!

Okay, that is just my frustration. I actually love to see them..................in my neighbor's yards.

My dogs bark a lot-- at the deer passing thu, unfortunately they still eat as they mosey along.

I still owe you bread recipes--just talked to DH and yes he took BOTH bread book to work. He has a full kitchen there. He had a full kitchen installed, very nicely done, and because the "office" is a removated house the full kitchen works well for his staff as well. Will get the recipes to you--promise!

You all broke USPS. I had a package sent yesterday and it won't give me info when I track it and I had another sent early today and still no info. I don't think they can handle the egg load. maybe we should inform them that they might be handling more fragile packages during the hatches than at christmas!!!

On another note, the girl that was going to hooke me up with turkey eggs said she will do so at a later date, so depending on when the turkey hatch a long is I might be game.

And do you need a coop for turkeys? Can I just let them free range without a coop or pen?

You need to know if black head is a problem in your area, if not you can co-mingle chickens and turkeys. If you free rang just be ready for a turkey on the car, displaying males trying very to impress you with a display, and the list goes on. Some days I'm happy to keep them in their pen so I can make a speedy get way in my car! I do pen mine at night, a aturkey trot every night to put them in , and keep safe from coyote that walk by the house at night.

I'm glad Diesel mad it home safely. Sorry about the loss of Rex.

Well, DD took it very well. Amazingly as I was walking in here I got distracted and walked out on the back porch to find the missing rabbit hopping toward me. Diesel has come home from out of the woods. YAY

We are sad to lose Rex but I am relieved to know that Diesel is safe and sound.

I hope I haven't lost my whole hatch. The first 2 were soooo dry inside they were caked to the membrane which was stiff. My pipped egg hadn't progressed so I pulled it out to check. DIS. The membrane was down around it an drying out. So affriad out of 49 eggs I may get only 2. And that's if they live.

This thread is really pulling me in. I just noticed that I am almost at 400 posts. I bet by the end of the hatchalong I will be above 500 and can become a Platinum member
