Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

OMG....DS was outside with DD and I was watching them through window while I was doing dishes. They're playing with dirt and sticks and stuff and all of the sudden DD starts screaming. I run out and she has a small cut on her finger and its bleeding. after I clean it up I make her show me what cut her, it turns out its my missing aquarium thermometer. The alcohol part is intact but the glass and beads aren't. DD says DS was eating the beads. So I run and check his mouth and there's no glass or cuts in his mouth but theres beads all over it. Does anyone know what those beads are? ARe they lead? Should I take DS to the ER?? I feel like the worst mommy ever.

Is it this kind? I can not find a package online, with the ingredients. I hope the heck that is not mercury. Do you have a package? YES, I would be going to the ER ! !

I will be setting 3 buff and one white silkie egg for a grand total of FOUR.
I couldnt hold my other eggs this long, and I set them thurs. But if my black hens get it together, Ill run out and see if I can add another, LOL!
whats the deadline for guessing on the questions? I have company here and dont have time now to go over all of that...
thanks!

Remind me to check with you later when I have room to hatch some silkie eggs.

A warm day here in Maine - sunny - snow melting - windows open....a day like this is why we live here!

And I have 48 eggs in to be part of this hatchalong!!!

Don't forget to buy your chick starter feed and prepare a brooder situation for your chicks who will be asking for you 21 days from now!!!

Uh, my brooder is all prepared and holds *ahem* 18 - 20... And I set 81, so that means ...

I really need to work on expanding the brooder space.

Finally caught up! I forgot to take a pic when I set them, so will do that tomorrow. I have a full turner! I did see a couple pics where people still have space in their bators, they must be late joiners and weren't effected by the enablers.

is that really possible?

ok I have almost six HUNDRED posts to read with NO TIME to stop and do so..I AM only doing this so can get help from the powers- that- be! HERE is Delema #1 I filled out how many eggs I was gonna set got EXTRAS from ALL my wonderful PEEPS! (LOVE YOU ALL) you know who you are! NEXT DELEMA I have the sportsman to incubate and four other incubators,I have taken pics on the fly of the eggs in there but some of those eggs are treasured project fluffy ameraucana eggs....well those are line A line B AND 100 FLUFFY Making a three in one hatch so they need to hatch seperate or be marked or somehow be banded (cant open bator) THEN there is a huge maran hatch... an EE hatch for the feed store, and a bunch from KAri for us and from john for us..the one for us can all go in one....the marans in one....problem is these had to be set as they cam in the marans went in on friday, since some where already ten days old, then the shipped eggs rested and went in SAt and then the fluffies went in this morning early...we will have three lockdowns and ten hatchers and I have only five max! IF I use the sportsman...and that durn thing had a rockin FAN that should be turned off to hatch right? I am GOING TO HAVE A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN! I am gulping coffee about to go paint coops....will check my phone for responses and im NEVER GONNA CATCH UP and I wanted to enter several contests...the flying bird one...the calendar one...I have adorable easter pics. and no time for anything AND I have been seriously battling a migrain for a whole week....and tha dang meds make my soda taste like ALUME....Nice! sorry for the rant. lol I'm panicing, its a happy panic, but definatly panic!

Ohhhhhh, I am soooooo worried about kvmommy's child !

I will endorse, over and over again....... get a proper thermometer for an incubator, like the Brinsea spot check.

This is awful. Just awful. I am praying this child has no ill effects, but I am very worried.

Still catching up!
Okay, here is my entry for ChestnutRidge's Most Ingenious Chicken Design - First some background. I experienced a "guinea population explosion" summer-before-last. I built a 12 x 16 open air, covered run to house the guineas and whatever chickens wanted to stay there. The roof is over 12 feet high at the peak and the birds like to sleep in the rafters. All the birds. Even the old, fat, laying hens will make their way all the way to the highest rafters to roost. Within a week of finishing the coop, I needed a way to get then out of the rafters so I found a scrap of wood about 30 inches long and a smaller scrap to nail on top. I called it my "Chicken Gitter." I have used it nearly every day since and have several times intended to make a more presentable version, but this one is functional and always handy. I had a neighbor come over to care for my birds while we were away on vacation and I labled it for her. I wrote "Chicken Getter" on it so she could differentiate it from other scrap wood laying around and because I was afraid she would think I didn't know that "Chicken Gitter" was incorrect! I now have three old hens that will stay in the rafters until I help them down. They stand on the rafter until they see the "Chicken Gitter" in my hand, then they squat and I touch the back of their legs with it. They step back onto the cross piece and I lower them to the ground. Spoiled girls!
