Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well... because I don't know if my eggs are good or not. How long can I leave them in there before I have to make a decision on whether I should take them out or not? I don't want exploding eggs.

I'm glad I set a full incubator for this hatch... my valentines day chicks are almost 5 weeks old and it looks like out of 21 chicks I only have 6 boys.

That's about normal for me. I don't have any idea what I do that causes a flux of girls, especially when I want boys...

I'm hoping that there's still a few closet boys in there, most of them are EEs so it's somewhat hard to tell.

I'll trade you on the numbers for my Valentine's hatch. I can't vouch for the 15 I sold as straight run day olds, but the 13 I kept, 9 boys and 4 girls. My New Year's hatch was exactly split, 6 boys & 6 girls.

What the heck, I'll try five. Do I turn off the 4 and then the five, Do I unplug it, turn off the 4 and then the five.
Or do I have both the 4 and the 5 down at the same time...cuz everything I've read says it won't work unless the 4 is engaged?

... and I won't be around at all tomorrow to check on it... with the exception of lunch hour. My girls have me double booked all day from 8 to 6.

... that is unless I decide to go to the hospital.

I'm finding that burns mature over time... but I'm a tough guy...

I have had mine on different toggles (emus hatch at 97.5). I would unplug it, wait a minute, change toggle and wait a couple minutes and then plug it back in.

Dang it! I sure hope you can get some relief. Praying for healing for ya.

Sorry Mahonri. I spaced on answering your question about the water weasel last night til I saw someones funny response this morning. Here's a site that explains it well.

...and rose to 97 within an hour or so, it is STILL there and I have not touched the dial. I'm being so good.... is there a prize for that?

There should be!!!

I am going to candle the evening of the 26th or morning of the 27th....

Then I won't candle again until April 4th when they come off the turners.

That's all I ever do... just the two.

Me too. Twice, that's all. However when I first started hatching...

Awww that is so precious! Mine brought me asparagus and ham quiche this morning with a toasted bagel and tea. Ok he just reheated the quiche I had made yesterday but still sweet.

well my incubator is reading 100. Needs to be 101 since it's still air. But I'm not bothering it. The humidity was in the 30's but I guess with the weather its sitting at 40 right now. I haven't put any water in. I'm trying the dry hatch method I found. Anyone else tried this? If so what's your opinions on it?

I would but I live in the high desert. Too dry here. I simulate the dry hatch method though by keeping my humidity around 30% but then I up it right before hatch.

This one made me laugh out loud! Probably cause I've been there, done that. haha

My picture for the calendar contest..for Christmas

Awwwwwwwwwww!

kvmommy so glad your son is ok! Can't beat yourself up. Kids do some crazy things and there is just no way to watch every move they make. Once my oldest DD was too quiet so I went to check on her. She had hung a little purse of hers from the door knob and then wound it around her neck! I found her hanging there looking a little panicked. It couldn't have been long or her skin would have shown the effects of oxygen deprivation but still... I kept thinking what if I hadn't checked on her right that moment!!!
