Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Temp in the bator now is 96.0.  hasn't been above 97.6 in over 13 hours.

All I can do now is sit back and watch the inevitable.

At least I'l have a few in the Brinsea hatch... I'll be moving the sulmtalers to be stacked in the Brinsea.

Sad because from Thursday until about 6PM last night, the bator stayed around 99.5 except for a couple of hours after I added the eggs.

Try un plugging it and moving the plug to a different outlet. You may not be getting a gook connection. Also, how old is the Genesis? There may be a problem with the heater unit.

Call GQF again.

I hope it works better for you soon :fl

Yes, like the other post said. Turn it off, switch off 4 and then switch on 5. Still try a different outlet.

GQF won't be open until 6 my time tomorrow morning. By then I've got to get ready for work.

After I shower, my wife has to apply medicine and dressing to my burns, sounds weird, but seriously, because of location, I can't do it by myself... and then I'm off to work from 8 until 6.

... I'm thinking the thermostat is fried. It's a four year old bator and unfortunately it stays in storage in a box in my outdoor shed where the temps get over 115 in the summer. Probably too much for it.

Got it! You are entered. The Most Ingenious Chicken Design Contest page is updated.
Here's that same pic:
What sort of birds are that rooster in the front and the bright golden hen in the background?

That would be great, thanks so much. I have two more things to enter. One I use every day, just need to take a picture. The second, I figured out, just need to go buy the parts.

Okay, I've got yours there as well, and I am looking forward to the others!!!

Thanks for the concern and advice! I knew it wasn't mercury but an alcohol thermometer but I was worried about the beads containing lead. I got my cell charged enough and called poison control. The beads steel shot but probably have lead, but not enough to cause lead poisoning. Thank God! They said he'll be totally fine and I'll probably find some beads in his poop. I'm seriously thinking about getting a landline since my cell phone can't hold a charge more than a few hours and half the time its dead. wow....what a day.

What a rough day (and previous night - was it you who was up 18 times last night as well?)!!!

I'm so glad everyone is okay.

What the heck, I'll try five. Do I turn off the 4 and then the five, Do I unplug it, turn off the 4 and then the five.
Or do I have both the 4 and the 5 down at the same time...cuz everything I've read says it won't work unless the 4 is engaged?
I might be crazy, but I keep mine plugged in, (1) turn off all switches, (2) turn on 2, 4, 6, and 8 like in the "return to factory setting" directions, (3) wait for light to flash, (4) turn all off, and finally (5) turn on the switch I want - in my case, I went down to two. You'd go up to 5. I hope something works for you!!!

Well the temp has moved in the right direction.

It's 99 in there right now.... according to the spot check. That's the highest it's been for over 15 hours

We'll see how long that lasts.

Well I am so glad she did so good for you over the winter! I have been busy. School, work and now this hatch. So glad to see that you have joined in.

I have mainly barnyard mixes going on but I also have some shipped eggs. Can't wait for the chicks! How have you been? Are you going to make the trip up north for Chickenstock?
No trips for me. I just had my neck fused a while back. C 5,6, and 7. I'm doing pretty good. Boy, did I ever wake up wondering what in the heck was going on. I had so much pain in my back and my left arm Won't get into the long drug out story, but it did take a while to get the right diagnosis, after an MRI showed some nice big blown discs. It's a miracle..technology today. After the surgery, I woke up with my arm laying down beside me. Something I hadn't been able to to for a long while, keep my arm down without having pain, and it just going dead. Release a few nerves, and walah! No pain, still a bit of numbness, but I'll take it, compared to what was going on! Had to wear a collar for quite a while. Guess my Osteoporosis got the best of me, they said my bones are really soft..so a long time with collar, and now I am doing neck excesses, because after wearing that thing for so long, the neck muscles can't move with out pain. It isn't bad at all..I'm turning my neck a lot better than I was just a month ago. Glad I was born in these days I guess..can't imagine what the pioneers dealt with back in the day...can you imagine..riding horses, lifting wagon wheels, all that hard farm work, they had to have had neck and back problems! Only I would be thinking of those poor folks right now. lol... I like just playing with my chickens and hopping into the car every now and again for chic feed.

I have waxed an egg for the first time in my life. One of my shipped eggs arrived with a crack, and it is an Iowa Blue egg, so I couldn't just discard it. I sure hope I have the kind of luck others have had with eggs with cracks in 'em. Tomorrow night I will set the last batch (currently awaiting pick up) and then I'll post everything I've set.

I did not have to go get TJ eggs this go-round. I thought about it, but when I realized I was getting more than a dozen eggs apiece from 3 different sources, I figured that's all I need to incubate.

Although the sex of chicks is determined by the hen, I just cannot figure out how I manage to hatch cockerels so well. I mean, I have never incubated any of my own flock's eggs - I've always done shipped eggs to add breeds to my flock. So SOMEBODY'S hens have been gifting me with roosters!

Here's my final count...

8 frizzle buff/gold/silver laced polish eggs
6 Yokohama eggs
3 Golden comet/light brahma cross
12 turkey eggs
- 3 royal palm
- 3 narragansett
- 2 red bourbon
- 2 blue slate
- 2 bronze
For a total of 29 eggs.

They're spaced strangely because I wanted the turkey eggs to have as much room as possible on the turners. The four in the center bottom row were originally around the edges and were just placed there for the picture. Today's candling revealed that they were duds. Both blue slates, one royal palm, and one of the bourbons. Opened 'em to check for fertility, but the yolks were already scrambled. I'm bummed about the RP and BR. Those are the breeds I want most out of that group. :(
