Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Hey, did anyone else notice that the egg shells get darker in the 'bator? The dark brown eggs (BCM and Wellies) are REALLY dark now and the blue EE eggs are BLUE. Is that a common occurance? Remember, this is my first time.

OMGOSH I will never catch up so I will start here. Hope everyone is having a great day

TGIF!!!

The best time to candle is around day 10, as it is hard to miss quitters that far along, especially if you are not very experienced at candling. Candling too frequently increased the risk of accidents like dropping eggs (happens every year to someone!), sometimes on the other eggs your incubator. In addition, handle shipped eggs very carefully and try not to roll them around - they may have loose air cell and you can disrupt the developing embryo.

So true, so true, so true ! !

I've been restraining myself from the desire to candle! I'm going to weigh them tonight (I have a Brinsea and just weigh the whole tray) and put in a little water if they are losing weight too quickly, and then I plot it on a graph (story of my life). ;)

Since I'll have the eggs out anyway, I'm going to try someone's (featherz?) method of candling from the top, without picking up the eggs. I've already taped some pipe insulation on my flashlight. :)

Wow, just caught-up after being gone for 24 hours! Thanks SCG for filling-in while I was out being bad to the bone!!!

Congrats Debs_Flock and karimw on the Icelandic eggs developing!! Only two more weeks to go (FYI-Icelandics have a tendency to be "early to the party") !!
