Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

haha...they do look cute from a distance. I'm the the most ungirly girl when it comes to my feet. I walk barefoot everywhere and they're hard as rocks. DH calls my feet the bear claws because they scratch his oh so delicate skin. My sister just came to visit me and swore that marriages don't last if the women don't manicure and pedicure, and where make up everyday. But she's divorced...so I'm going to go with the less is more thing. LOL But...before DH comes home from the deployment I decided to get a pedicure. He deserves it.

There appears to be a lot of losses and injuries going on here. I'm very sorry! I hope the Yorkie and roo get better and I'm sorry about the loss of the hen and roo. Well, the eggs in my LG have really large air cells so I started adding water. They are growing at an alarming rate. And...looks like I have about 6-7 more goners...but I didn't pull them yet. I'm waiting til Lockdown. The development seems a bit behind..but thats ok. I'm not going to start fiddling with the thermostat. But the hovabator is super stable now...after them early crazy temp swings.

Oh and when I was upset about my dog snapping at me, someone said she wouldn't remember when I let her back in. I just wanted to say you were right...she came in as happy as can be like nothing happened. And now we're sitting on the couch eating smoked oysters with Laughing Cow cheese on ritz together. I feel bad she's been crated all day the past 2 days because I've been very busy. My best friend left her husband after he cheated on her multiple times and moved to Fla. Well, she finally started dating a great guy and was getting on her feet with the 2 kids and her husband called her. Said he was going to kill himself if she didn't come. So her and the kids came back...which is great for me. And when she got here, his Navy chief was waiting for her. Her husband was in ER and getting locked in the Psych Ward. They won't tell her what happened except that he threatened to kill himself on a couple of occasions. But her husband had multiple contusions on his face and he said they took him to the back room and told him that she and her kids were there as a surprise. He was excited and when he walked in, 3 guys from his command jumped him from behind and beat him and took him to the hospital. The hospital won't talk to her and neither will his command. But his story doesn't make sense, but then again the contusions all over his face doesn't reflect a normal submission...it looks like he really was beaten. So...I've been spending lots of time with her and her kids. Her 5 year old son has been acting soooo awful since they separated and now he's here and can't see his dad, he's even worse. I just feel soooo bad for them. I love them just as if they were my own family.

Sorry...had to vent.

Is it hatch day yet??? I'm starting to get antsy. The urge to candle every egg all day long is killing me. Must hatch an emu. And peacock. And basque chicken. and....oh gosh..my husband is going to kill me!
There was a post on the EO Basque Hen thread this week - The guy said some of his Basque Hens know their names. The Hatchery hens in my flock think their name is "here Chicky Chicky".

13 of my 15 EO Basque eggs are developing nicely. I removed one today and the egtopsy showed an early quitter. I thought about Mahonri's rotten egg story and was very glad that the egg was inside a double zip lock bag when I cracked it open.

Ok, going to give this a shot..my look alike...don't care for gaga..but when I picked my chick out for the look alike, I thought for sure I would find a similar hair do from that particular person.

So, i did my first candleing after having the incubator shut off for about 8-10 hours a few days ago. I for sure saw one chick moving, the rest didn't see much activity. praying they are still going. So here's what I have now:

Swedish Flower Hens: Start 13: 1 egg cracked, 12 remaining
Cream Legbar: Start 4: 1 clear, 1 blood ring; 2 remaining
Blue Laced Red Wyandottes: Start 14: 1 blood ring, 1 quitter, 12 remaining
Silver Hamburgs: Start 3, remaining 3
Ameraucaunas: Start 12, 2 clear, 1 quitter, 9 remaining

Start total: 46 eggs. Remaining 38 eggs

The only one I saw moving for sure was the Hamburg. praying, paying, praying. Grow little chickies. don't be quitters because you were cold!

As of candling tonight and out of 58 eggs set on the 17th I am down to 32 chicken embryo's developing nicely in their eggs. I knew I wasn't going to have that great of fertility with the flood and having to move them and lock them up. out of those 32 eggs 6 of them are my EE's green eggs that are so dark shelled that they can't be seen in even with my good candler. No smell from them so I am hoping they are developing nicely, they are my first from my EE Hens and EE Roo.
With 2 floods, computer hard drive eating poop and the wheel baring going out in the van, Being flat broke because of it all, I am Praying That we have a Good hatch Rate and maybe win Mega millions
