Well I put my eggs into lockdown. I candled a few and then I couldn't take it anymore. They look like they haven't changed since day 14, the day after my incubator was shut off all day. So bummed. I don't think any or gonna hatch. I just put them into lockdown and am hoping for the best. I don't want to look at anymore. Super sad. everyone was so encouraging, but I just haven't seen any movement. The few I looked at weren't at all like last time I hatched when it was clear that there was life inside... there's a sliver of hope, but it's very small.

So far I have 8 chicks! Not close to 40 at all... but maybe day 23 will bring in the numbers. Day 22 had 7 more chicks then day 21 lol. My temps have been known to drop when it gets down to 60 in the house at night, and in turn the bators drop a little. I hate running the AC durning the day and the heater at night, I always forget one or the other and freeze to death or sweat to death before I can get to the thermostat.

I do have 2 chicks though that have pretty big bellies. It was immediately noticed they are so big. Will they get smaller as the day goes on? They just hatched right after we walked in the door.

I just got word from a happy customer who was my first to buy fertile hatching eggs that 8 of the 12 I sold her hatched. Not bad, just hoping that the ones I have in the bator from my chickens after this nasty weather hatch at a better percentage then before. my first few hatches I had done like I was told and read about doing. This will be my second dry hatch, the first one was a far better success rate then the other method, so we will see, Won't be in the running for any prizes after this nasty weather and the stress on the flocks, not to mention power outages and sudden weather changes. But I will still enjoy watching any and all chicks that hatch even if its just seeing posts from others about their babies hatching.

I love the plastic trays. Have some in my Sportsman right now. I also have blue ones that are made more peg like and I don't care for them as much. They seem to be better for bantam eggs.

I made these I think a little over a year ago. I was trying to hatch geese at the time, which SHOCK, didn't work out. Two exploded and none of the rest even started. Anyway I was looking around and saw something similar, but they were like 30 bucks. It's kind of hard to get the jist of how it works, but I can't find my S-hooks. I use the hooks and rubber bands to hold the eggs in place. It flattens out better with eggs in it and it's also been stuffed into a box, but only takes a minute to straighten. Anyway, My BIG EGG holder.

It's a bitter sweet victory, there is zero doubt about the eggs now. 6 Marans didn't develop, and 2 more AM and 1 Icelandic were all eliminated

But now I know the remaining 64 were alive and kickin yesterday

I think i've went to bed at 730 maybe about 12 times in my life and they were all after the kids were born! Of course, I was night owl since I was little. I can't fathom waking up at 330. Thats my bedtime.

And yes...a couple days in the hotel would be soooo awesome. I haven't told DD yet. She bugs me everyday with whining and crying about missing her daddy. So, I'm going to drop the kids with my friend so when he gets home I can freak out and scream and kiss and hold him first then we'll go to her house and surprise DD so she can have him mostly all to herself. I'm not sure DS will remember him. Im sure he will but I don't know how he's going to react. I'm definitely going to film it. I'm soooo excited. I think deployments are good for marriages because you miss your other half so much and really remember to appreciate them. Just not long deployments, those make life sooo tough. But I don't understand how many women cheat on their husbands and take their money and disappear. Its sooo cruel to their spouse. I see it all the time. It makes me sad. I love that I can trust my husband so wholeheartedly and he can trust me. He knows that he may come home to more chickens, maybe another dog...or even a hedgehog. But, he knows i'll be there waiting for him. I'm just sooooo excited!

It is hard, but thank you BOTH for your service to this country. I'd be pretty excited if I came home to a hedgehog...

KVMommy, I am so excited that your dh is coming home soon. I vividly remember being so exhausted and having a baby and toddler around the house. My dh isn't military, but he travels a lot for work, so I understand, to a small degree.

HA! No, the chickenstock I am referring to is in New Hampshire. The part of NH that is very far away from Maine (a good 4 hour drive). Hosted by aceschix, who has light Brahmas, Ameraucanas, Marans, - all things I am interested in.
