Wasn't it Cyn who said that our hens are little egg vending machines....

Well, The Sheriff's new BRINSEA cabinet incubator will be the new chick vending machine for Blue Isbars, Icelandics and other assorted and wonderful birds.. including huge EMUS!

Hi everyone congrats on all the early hatches i am at work which is a good thing or i will have my face permentely attached to the incubators i can not wait to get that first chick i locked down 73 of the 124 eggs with all the temp problems i have been having that is not that bad last night the temp got up to 104 again but all eggs have sweet babies just a moving. I have several people that keep asking if they have hatched yet becasue i had promised them some of the babies DH thinks i am crazy for doing so many and it is so hard not to think about what could be going on at home while at work and if the temp has spiked again.

My small 24 egg one still doesn't have pips...

... I know, I know.. .it's only day 19.

But my 1588 has 6 chicks and 7 pips (as of 7AM this morning).... can't wait to go home for lunch and see how many chicks I have.

I've decided I'm naming my first pipped and fourth hatched brown Icelandic, "Slime"... When I take a pic of him, you'll understand... somehow it even has a strip of yellow/green chick poop across its back.

Man, this has to be one of my worst hatches ever! The Wheaten that had pipped a fourth of the way around, died! What? I have heard of this happening, but it is the first for me. I only have 4 more pipped at this time, and they aren't Wheatens!

No pips on hatch day is not a good sign.

Best edit that..not a good sign in my experience. :(

You put in a dollar and out pops a chick?

Oooooh, I'll take that little blue one in the corner! It needs to have little pinch claws like with the stuffed animal machines.

Hate those machines, I never win

So glad I am at work right now because I want to keep running to the bator to check to see if I have any pips. Wisher thanks for the slap for Mahonri, he seems to be a little better now.

I have witnessed the very same thing with my birds. There is always a favorite sister-wife and it's terrible to break up those relationships, so I generally don't.
Left out in the cold after setting up breeding pens and getting rid of a lot of the non-breeders. I still have way too many roosters on the yard. There is one Buckeye hen left that didn't make the cut, and she and a polish rooster are always together. He does his best to keep all the other suitors away. Yesterday the two of them were under a trailer together and there were 4 roosters sitting on top of the trailer waiting for a chance, and he is the only one she lets close to her if she can help it.

In other matters, I ended up throwing out most of my eggs, I am afraid it was a little too early for barn-kept chickens. I'm working hard and getting them some yard room with natural daylight. My babies are just going to be late this year.
