(Hope it was from mine)

Love the pics, everyone! We've had really wonky temps (20s-88*) during this hatchalong, and it's apparently affected all of my incubators. I'll be adding a layer of wood to my FarmGirl NQB8R (I made it) to have a better heat ballast in its body for the next go-round. Fortunately I'll have enough space in other incubators for the turkeys and geese I'm setting Sunday.

I know the cool nights where I couldn't bear to turn the heat back on slowed these eggs down, because all 4 incubators have peeps but not a single pip. Oh, well!

I talked with Yashar today, and he's got an old Sears incubator from the 50s that is several inches thick in all of the walls. I'm totally going to mimic that! I'll put 2 layers of 1x6s on mine to finish it out, because I started w/ 7/8" plywood and insulated internally with foam board, foil and reflective tape. I'd like to be able to retain heat MUCH better, but I'll have to reset all of the heating elements after that, too...it'll slow me down a little bit, but NOTHING can stop me from hatching!!!! Muwhahahahahahaaa!!!!!!!....um, I mean, that's okay.

By the way, thank you so much for the idea of putting a bit of sod in the brooder. They are loving it, and it is keeping them busy. A while ago, I caught them playing keep-away with a bit of dried leaf. Silly chickens.

Give in and buy a Sportsman or a Dickey, or even a (my last choice) big Brinsea!

You know I'd be all over it, but I'm afraid I'm without the necessary remuneration for such as that right now...I figure I'll get a good used one later in the season, but EVERYONE is looking for them right now. Craigslist is full of want ads.

I knew a vet in Independence KS who had 2...I wonder if he still has them. Perhaps I'll call!

Yep! One from a greenish egg. Another greenish egg from you has hatched and I don't *think* that's a NN. Pretty sure. So far only eggs from you have hatched - nothing in my styrobator, just two pips. =(

Well at least the NN OEs cooperated a bit. I don't know what happened with the brown turken eggs, I've eaten them a few times in the past 2 weeks to check and they've all been fertile.
