Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Happy Easter everyone!

Very grateful for the reason of this day..the Atonement, means so much to me.

Good luck to those still hatching! This was fun for sure! Chicken folk are always so nice, and fun to talk to.

I so had wanted to join all you in your hatch along, but was having some troubles with my incubator. I did get it fixed and was able to get the eggs set at midnight instead of noon, so I never did sign up. All my eggs were shipped and I set 52 total. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how many hatch. I don't candle until day 22 and then it's just to see if any chicks are still working at it. So my hatch has just begun. I see pips and am hearing peeps all over the place. Course it helps that the baby turkeys I just got are currently residing in the living room. I think their whistling is encouraging the chicks to hatch. I can't wait to see how many have hatched tomorrow morning. These are all replacement layers for us, so a good female hatch would be very welcome with just a few boys for breeders. I see 8 pips on the Welsummer side and 2 in the Dark Cornish, so we will see what morning brings.

Sorry for those of you that have had bad hatches. They happen from time to time to all of us unfortunantely. And those of you that have chicks to play with I'm so been sitting here with my flashlight on magnifing glasses checking every single egg looking for all those pips. It's just so exciting and fun.

Congrats to everyone on their hatches!
Mine is complete. I bought 6 turkey eggs, received 8, had all 8 develop, 7 made it to lockdown, 7 hatched.

I am thrilled. They were shipped eggs, first time incubating turkeys, in a staggered hatch in a still air lg with chickens, ducks, geese, and quail. The last one just finished hatching a few minutes ago, the first hatched late last night.
Here's the babies in the brooder so far.

That is fabulous! Congratulations!

Wow! Lots of posts!

Have 16 hatched, one pipped and 3 still eggs. All that have hatched look healthy and happy! Once the pipped one hatches I'll investigate the unhatched eggs, hopefully they are just being slow.

Will take pictures tomorrow, when they are all done and fluffy cute!

Enjoying all the pictures.

Does anyone know how dramatic a drop in temps pre-pipped hatch-day eggs can survive?? My light burnt out at some point this evening, and the thermometers were reading 83

before I noticed and changed the bulb out.

Am I done? Is it hopeless? Or do I keep hoping, and give them a few days, yet?

Any advice welcome...

I have two bators. one 4 has hatched so far. Others are piped..

the second bator in day 19 my temp dropped to 96 and humidity in the 50s.. only one has piped and i'm not seeing much with it so far....too bad thats the bator that has all me EE eggs and leghorn...its the eggs I was hatching for myself..

my last hatch did well I still have 45 out of 47 that hatched...THATs waaaay too many chickens for me!!! they are all brown egg layers...and now...just the brown eggs I set are hatching....O well...guess thats an excuess to find more EE eggs to incubate if they don't hatch...but...i want them to hatch already
