THANKS!

I raise a filly by giving her cattle colostrum. Her am died directly after she was born. The owner was so upset she called and offer me the paint horse filly 2 AM in the morning.... Told her to grow up milk that mare and give that baby some milk....
I had just got over raising a spoil rotten paint filly of my own. (still rotten to this day) 7 years old. She was raised on goats milk, lots of goats milk.
Anyway not want another horse I couldn't help it called at six in the morning to see how the filly was doing. She hadn't done anything with the poor little filly. The husband had pulled the mare out to bury her so wife couldn't see her... I told her I was on the way over to get her. With one request she would paper her if I saved her. The answer was yes. It was a forty mile trip over to her house. All the way I though What am I doing????
I took my Van to put her in. That way I could watch her while looking for some colostrum milk, Drove to my goat milk source dairy It was not kidding time and no milk. They called a friend who had a milk cow dairy. They said I could go get some there to go to the milk barn . OK on the road again just couple miles this time. At the barn no one spoke English... Finally I had the guy to follow me to the van to show him what I had. He under stood then. With a big smile he got me 2 five gallon buckle of fresh colostrum milk. With his broken English he said she'll be ok now good luck.
When I finally got home that filly was so hungry It took only minutes to teach her how to suck out of a bucket. Boy was I releaved that she was strong.
I raised her on the little goats my friends could spare and powdered low fat milk mixture some old cowboy told me about.
She grew to be a show horse for the people I sold her to at 2 years old...
Sure hope I don't have raise another one.
To me goats milk is the best supplement feed when available for any animal...

I bought an "exposed" 3 year old miniature mare at an auction. The owner said she'd been running with his 2 year old stallion for the past couple of weeks. Imagine my surprise when she came home and promptly delivered a premie filly. Unfortunately the mare didn't produce any milk right away and my "free" baby turned into a $500 vet bill for IV antibodies. When I called the guy I told him I thought maybe she had visited the stallion last year too

The mare was a loon so I sold her, but still have the baby

Miracle is doing much better tonight.. She is eagerly sucking the bottle, up to 2 oz now and has even stood up!!

So adorable! If she gets strong enough will she be able to rejoin her family or is she permenantly a bottle baby now?

Birdguy I am glad for you that your doeling is doing much better. Goat's milk is by far the best thing for ANY animal baby needing milk! I raise Alpines and mini-Alpines and I have raised many 2 day old bottle babies from other goat dairies on my goats milk and a calf or two! I love my goats! Well my incubators are still going! Just put 6 turkey, 9 cal. whites, 3 Oe's, and 14 buff and lav orp, EE's, wheaton americauna and lav americauna, and dominiques in lockdown! Woohoo! Most of these are already sold or spoken for....good thing as my brooders are still full! However, there's a poultry tailgate sale coming up right down the road from me on the 29th so I'm saving up

LOVE IT! I do remember it being posted many, many posts ago.

Has the spreadsheet on the actual hatch rate been released yet? For my own personal studies, I would like to see it...

On Saturday I helped at a little petting zoo (4-H community service project), we had all sorts of fun things, like cockroaches, a tarantula, chickens, a goose, turtles. One of the hits was the baby chicks I took. While we were there, a gentleman threatened to steal my roo! (large spash orp) but he compromised by giving me his number with the agreement he could buy one of the baby roos when it is old enough. It appears I have 4 blue/black/splash orps. Sigh, there goes my dinner.

Guess I'm gonna have to fire up the incubator again.
